Not the most interesting thread in the world - but I just discovered reclassifying my occupation as a "Computer Programmer" and not a "Software Engineer" saves me £50 on a £600 premium!

Ridiculous! As far as I can see all jobs with the word "engineer" in them are inherently risky! ;)

My new job title is engineer but damned if I'm changing it considering when I'm out on location I go by plane and not car!

Just 'engineer' worked best for me, any type of engineer increased my premium by about £20.

Weird.

Yeah, there's only a few of us "proper" ones about. ;)

Such a shame, as it dilutes the status/importance of proper engineers. A proper engineer is as qualified as a Doctor. An engineer designed your washing machine, the guy in the blue overalls fixing it is not a washing machine engineer..

Special club, remember rules one and two though, we don't talk about being engineers......................oh wait :(

Although I agree with this I would hate to see this thread turn into a warzone :D

When I lost my job and went from Computer Consultant to Unemployed, my insurance premium went from £380 per year to £550. This was with taking business use off and reducing my milage from 20k to 5k.
Thanks insurance company, love you too.

I also found my engineer / technician change made a big difference to my life insurance. One was classed as a level 3 risky job ???? Can't remeber which though - but it made a difference of about £70 a year.

My second exciting insurance fact is:

General Exceptions to Cover:

We will not cover you while your car is:
- blah
- blah
- used on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, or for racing, competitions, ...

Specific exemption for Nurburgring, nice!

You'll find that on most insurance policies, and i think it's because the ring is actually considered a public road and not a track, so they have to make a special exemption clause.
