console for a PC gamer

Both are great options.

Personally, if I had neither and had to get one games console, it'd be the Xbox.

The massive library of games, and excellent on-line service makes it the better choice in my opinion.

However, if you were after more than a games console, the supreme media capabilities of the PS3, along with the ability to browse the and even load Linux on it, make it the better choice in those circumstances.

I only have a 360, but as a gamer that went from 100% PC to 100% console, I can safely say that the console delivers. Well, it did for me anyway. :D

The main thing two things to check (in my opinion) are that you like the controller and that the games catalogue is to your taste. Both should be in order though, I'm sure.

Also went from being 100% PC to now basically 100% Xbox 360, although I do play a lot more casually on the Xbox compared to playing games on the pc but this is what I was looking for as now I don't really have the time like I used to.

Thanks for all your help/advice guys.
Im not too fussed about blue ray, hence youve made my mind up...Its gonna have to be the 360.
Now...im wondering to go the used route and hopefully get a good bundle or should i pay the full whack to get a new one?

I'd always go new if you can afford it. You'll get the full warranty, (which you're statisticaly likely to use. :( ).

Also it helps you avoid picking up a second hand console that's been banned from live.

There's plenty of good bundles out there that'll net you a few games plus maybe a few accessories to get you going. :)

Yeah I wouldnt touch a second-hand X360 personally (unless you know the owner), just too many potential pitfalls - new one is cheap enough to get for that added peace of mind...

ps3ud0

I have both and find myself using the Xbox more, with the ps3 relegated to a blue ray player/media streamer and the odd exclusive.
Exactly the same position as I was in and I decided to just sell on my PS3 because it got virtually no use. Some of the PS3 exclusives still interest me but not enough that I'd want to pay as much as the console still goes for to get one again.

I'm a big PC gamer and i have the 360, PS3 and Wii and i find myself constantly on the 360.

It's the best out of the 3 consoles.

If you're keeping the PC for games too, the PS3 probably offers more choice because as said already, many of the 360 exclusives are also on the PC. If you're no longer going to use the PC for games though, the 360 will offer more of the franchises you're familiar with.

Absolutely go new and make sure it's got the *"Jasper" chipset. I would only buy second hand if I knew it was this version.

* I now have a new Jasper xbox 360 (my old one died of the triple red rings of death syndrome-no surprises there), and the difference in heat output is exceptional. I no longer use my xbox as a back-up heater.

Been a little over a year since I got my first Xbox. Now have 2 in seperate rooms. I was always a PC gamer, and when I first got the xbox, found myself wanting to go back to the PC quite often.

Kept buying graphics cards, but always landed up returning them for one reason or another. Now I still look at graphics cards, but feel no desire to buy one really, even with the brilliant prices on the likes of the 4890's. I just don't want to game on PC any more.

I would, however, like to get a PS3 now too. Simply because there are some games that I would really like to play on it.

Suddenly not sure what my point was............

I think getting a pro 360 would be a great choice OP.

just a little update, i ended up going for an xbox 360 elite. Really enjoying the graphics etc.
One thing im having serious difficulty with is the control pad, more specifically the 2 nobbly direction controllers on the pad, im finding it very difficult to get used to these as opposed to my previous experience with the keyboard/mouse. does it take time to get used to the pad? because i cant even play without it taking ages for me to i.e. look/aim. im not gonna bother with FPS's, these will remain on the PC, but with games such as gear of war, i found it really diffuclt to use the control pad
otherwise really happy with the console.

You will get used to it. :)

I went from PC to consoles and thought the same.

Now I can switch from PC to console and back when I feel like it and play competitively on both. :)

Just keep at it, and you'll eventually get to a point where everything clicks into place, and you find it usable. ;)

Make sure you have the controller inverted if that's the way you're used to having your mouse. Otherwise, what everyone else says; you will get used to it. I thought I never would and it's now second nature.

Exactly what I would have said!

And as the above post, invert the y-axis; push to look down, back to look up.

360. especially if you are an fps fan. loads of them on the 360 and the 360 pad is vastly superior to the ps3 pad for fps imo
I'm going to be a PC gamer snob and say that the 360 pad is still vastly inferior to a keyboard and mouse. I think people that buy a console for FPS are slightly nuts :p

I agree with the PS3 for PC gamer - 360 for someone who is looking to play fewer games on the PC really. I've just opted for PS3 and can soon tell you if I think it was the best decision, but while I think the 360 is a winner between the two for games catalogue, the fact that many titles are on PC (and better on PC) means I'd rather go with PS3 for exclusives and the media capabilities.

Didn't see that you went with 360, but to be honest mate, there's not a lot in it imo, you can't go far wrong with either.

Good for you. Enjoy playing Killzone 2, Resistance 1+2, Halo 3, The Darkness... Oh wait...

PC and console gaming are worlds apart imo. Stupid to even begin to compare them.
