Hello,

After 2 1/2 years I decided to upgrade me old 8800GTX, received my ASUS GTX285 today but I can't get it to work. The card fits fine, I've made sure I've connected both the power leads but when I boot up I get no video signal to the monitor, no omimous beeping from the PC and the CPU and GPU fans are all spinning up ok.

I've tried both DVI ports on the card and even tried VGA with the VGA -> DVI adapter that came with the card. As soon as I popped my 8800GTX back in my system is fine :( I'm running an ASUS P5K WS, Q6600, 4gb RAM, 2 x WD Raptor SATA's, 2 x 500gb SATA, X-Fi Fatal1ty, Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2

Anything about my system that screams out to you clever guys as to what might be wrong, or am I simply looking at a broken card do you think ?

try the hdmi out.you may need a hdmi to dvi adapter if you dont have an hdmi capable monitor and just switch the display from hdmi to dvi.

The card doesn't have a hdmi out, it did come with a dvi -> hdmi convertor, but my monitor doesn't do HDMI either so can't really try it :( thanks for the suggestion though :)

I must admit the one thing I was thinking about was the PSU, I'm not sure how power hungry the GTX285's are, I know my 8800GTX was a bit of a beast though so thought my existing PSU should be ok. I did try disconnecting all my SATA drives to see if it helped by removing some of the power load, but nope.

right i check the pix of your card and it did not have hdmi instead it got a S-Video/tv out try that instead.if the card does not have an output at the boot process it could also be a dead card, have you tried it in another pc.

Time for some humble pie for me, and really just to update this on the extreme off chance anyone else had a similar problem with the same mobo+gpu configuration.

So I sent the card back to Overclockers thinking it must faulty, after a couple of days got an email back to say they had tested and found no fault :( I was a bit puzzled and figured there must be something about my system I might have to replace, maybe a better PSU, new motherboard etc.

Anyway, one thing I realised I hadn't done is check the BIOS on my motherboard, sure enough my ASUS P5K WS was running the original 0401 version of the BIOS, there were about 9 further updates and some of them had comments such as 'Enhance the compatibility with some PCIX devices'. I basically had to upgrade to BIOS 1004 and then to the latest version 1201.

As soon as I'd done that the card seems to be working fine. Really wish I'd though of it first, such a schoolboy error. Anyway, a big sorry to Overclockers and in the off chance any of you guys see this really sorry to have wasted your time. But really impressed with your RMA service and also the full graphics report printout you guys did.

I'll make up for it by buying lots of upgrades over the next year anyway :)

Good for you getting it sorted. This may help somebody in the future with a similar problem ;)
