I'm sure there's a few online(can't remember atm) but it might be a good idea to jump onto yell.com and find some local printers. You might have more luck visiting/speaking to them over the phone.

thing is i'd like to see some samples first!

well best prices would be online but then you wont get the samples without purchasing at least the first one, best prices i have seen vary from £4 to £8 for a3 and £19 to £30 for a1 some will discount for large batch, depends how many really, how many r u after.

Sorry to bump, but I have a similar question and a new thread seemed unwarranted. I have a 9 megapixel image (saved as JPG by the camera, Panny FZ38) that I want printed fairly large and framed. The aspect ratio on the camera was set to 16:9 if that makes a lot of difference. Just wondering what the best way to go about getting a decent print would be. I can link the image once it's uploaded (rather large ~4M), also wondered if it'd benefit from any postprocessing, but I don't have a calibrated monitor.

I see photobox recommended a few times on this forum, will it be good enough quality for, say a 18"x12" ish print? What do you guys use (bear in mind I'm no photographer!)?

DSCL or something are normally recommended. Personally I'd only go with photobox for small bulk prints as the prints I've had done with them really don't compare to a professional outfit.

I use loxley but signing up with them can be a bit of a pain for just a single image and DSCL colour labs is apparently just as good. :)

Thanks for that, their prices seem competitive too.

Just wondering what to do in terms of aspect ratio and print sizes? Will they just return it with white space and fit the image, or will they print to a specific dpi and thus size based on resolution? 16:9 isn't that common for cameras it seems, but I'd ideally like the print as original as possible.

If they don't actually let you choose a 16x9 ratio then there will be lines at the top and bottom/sides. Best bet for you is to crop it to 3:2 ratio before you send it then you will know exactly what it will look like when you get it back.

You could always do a 2:1 ratio actually (18x9 inches or something) if they do them. :)

(I dont actually know what sizes they do so didn't think about 2:1)

Or you could just live with borders and send it in as is ( cut the borders later).
