Right need a car and insurance for under realistically £1800. Car doesnt have to anything other then drive me and upto 3 other adults around. However it cant be too "big" as the other driver is still learning and so wants a nice small cute car.

Got 3yrs NCB so i can insurance stuff at a decent price untill I add the learner then it rockets up :(

Currently lookin at;

Ford 1.3 ka
Ford 1.25 fiesta
Vaux 1.0 Corsa
Pug 1.1 106

Any other cars I should be lookin at? (a 1.8 mondeo/vectra is a little too much on insurance)

I know they are all bad :(

I wanted a st24 as theres one around the corner for £550 but the insurance for me is £600 and when i add the girlfriend on it goes upto £1400! which is doable but then if anything goes wrong for the first few months im buggered!!

1.4l 106? Suggested because my insurance was something under £450 @ 20yrs with only named driver no claims. Not much more expensive than a 1.1l, but more fun to drive.

only a 3dr though, 5dr is better for getting 4 adults in

KA's are only 3 door and he is obviously considering them.

I'd pick one of the two Fords. KA engine is suppose to be very reliable and not having a cam belt is always handy.

Ditto with the Fiesta engine and the car will be slightly bigger.

For me it would be which every one of those two you visually prefer.

daihatsu charade ( the latest version but has been discontinued) Running costs/insurance will be low, very roomy for the size, solidly built and quite peppy for a 1.0l

Go for a diesel? That way you get to have a decent sized engine, something that ISN'T a 1.0 Corsa, and your insurance stays low. I was getting quoted the same sum for a 2.8 to 3.2 litre TD 4x4 as I was for a 1.4 petrol Astra when I passed my test five years ago (with ecarinsurance.co.uk). Diesels are 'grandad' cars, not boy racer cars. Ergo, insurers don't tend to rape diesel drivers so much in my experience.

I always had Mondeo/405/Vectra estate sized cars with nice derv engines. Even for a learner, an Astra/Focus sized diesel will have a nice enough engine (certainly compared to a 1.0 Corsa!) and will be small enough to not be intimidating.

JMHO.

If you're gonna be needing to regularly travel with 3 other people, I'd recommend saving a bit more and getting a Mondeo. It'll be worth it. I can just see you getting tired and cramped very quickly in such other small cars, where as the Mondeo is easily big enough for the same money-ish.
