Follw us on Twitter

Does OcUK's customer demography match that of Twitter's users? If not, what the **** is the point in using it?

Unless, however, OcUK is changing direction from being targeted at hardcore computer geeks with no social life but a decent disposable income to favouring the teenagers who use Twitter to know what party Paris Hilton attended last night and to know what colour socks Dizzee Rascal chose to wear this morning.

Your opinion would hold more sway if it weren't for your hugely misguided view of the sort of people who use Twitter.

Sure, a lot of people probably do use it for that, however huge swathes do not.

I think a lot of the negative feeling in this thread is stemmed from misinformed or misguided views of what Twitter is, what it can be and the sort of people who use it.

By joining Twitter, OcUK just shows that it is willing to use new services that become available to it.

It needs to be implemented effectively though, else they may find they just create an image of technological ignorance and poor understanding of the social networking trend above all else.

Very basic step - in a similar vein to the other company I mentioned, run a small Twitter based competition, everyone who twitters #ocuk or @ocuk or something gets entered into a draw to win something. Such a move will see the tag spread like wildfire throughout Twitter creating massive brand awareness at the very least and show OcUK to have an understanding of the technology they're using to reach these people.

Potential for a lot of marketing power there for the price of a graphics card or something.

edit - just looked at it, if you just link spam, you may as well not bother. Not only will you just annoy most people, there is very little likelihood of spreading any awareness. :(

The best way for OcUK to use Twitter is to:

Post info about new offers
New competitions - Maybe Twitter exclusive competitions to become a trending topic
Answer consumer questions

By becoming a Trending Topic, you can guarantee that the majority of Twitter's user base will check out what it's about.

OcUK are loosing their reputation already, what's next facebook, myspace ? Not professional at all :(

MW

Im not usualy a big fan of facebook, myspace kinda stuff. But Twitter seems like a great idea for OCUK. Why not update customers on whats new and available to them.

No harm imo .. and Following ;)

Dell makes $2 Million with Twitter

We’ve surpassed $2 million in revenue in terms of Dell Outlet sales, but we’re also seeing that it’s driving interest in new product as well. We’re seeing people come from @DellOutlet on Twitter into the Dell.com/outlet site, and then ultimately decide to purchase a new system from elsewhere on Dell.com. If we factor those new system purchases that come from @DellOutlet, we’re actually eclipsed $3 million in overall sales,”

The computer maker offers Twitter exclusive deals and discounts through its Twitter account and has gained over 620,000 followers. An important aspect of how Dell is making money with the online networking site may be the fact that it is using the tool properly with a system specifically designed for the micro-blogging service.

Now following, though i did notice that there was an Overclockers UK twitter account before but someone random must have created. ;)

I only recently stumbled on facebook and twitter. I find facebook a bit of a gimmick but it is useful as mechanism to keep in touch especially with people you've lost touch with. I do use linkedin though which tends to be more for professionals.

Twitter on the other hand is very useful to get snippets of info. It's a bit like group text messaging on the net.

My phone has a twitter app so I can just logon and get a quick view on things. It's useful for things like news or events which change rapidly. The weekends F1 testing was particularly good as the BBC twitter site was publishing lap times regularly.

I'm glad you have your health.
