Recommended SSD for Samsung NC10

Can anyone recommend an SSD for a Samsung NC10. Not looking to spend much given that it is just for casual use and it doesn't need to be large capacity - just enough for Windows 7 and a few apps. I am hoping to make the netbook quieter (for late night use), more robust for travelling and perhaps a bit more responsive.

Would a second hand OCZ 30GB do or would I be better of paying the extra for a new 64GB Samsung?

If the SSD runs cooler than the HDD would it mean that the cooling fan is less likely to kick in or is that purely down to CPU temperature?

I am not sure that I would want to buy a MLC SSD second hand. I mean it could have been abused with lots of write cycles - combine that with poor wear-leveling firmware and you could have a problem!! Would you really save that much over the Samsung 64Gb SSD OcUK have. Bear in mind that performance wise the Atom CPU just can't shift data that quickly anyway.

Modern laptop HDs are pretty quiet anyway I find!! :D

The Atom CPU shouldn't need much cooling I would have thought! Perhaps its the aging Intel chipset it's paired with that's the real problem!! A regular 2.5" HD won't make any significant different to the laptop/netbook cooling system.

Yeh it is much faster with an SSD but the guy in the video says right at the start that the SSD datarate is limited by the ATOM chipset to 60Mb/s. I believe a drive like the Vertex would be complete overkill as it would saturate the bus and then some - therefore not reaching it's full performance. An SSD will really help with disc read latency issues (swapping between aplications) as the ATOM does not support order-of-order execution. That's basically why I suggested a "slower" SSD like the budget Samsung model.

An ssd makes an enormous difference to a laptop. I used a 30gb core v2 with my samsung nc10. The result was more responsive than the girlfriends 2ghz c2d laptop, which I liked.

Now Id probably go for the ocz agility, but I bought my first ssd a relatively long time ago :)
