To turn into my new trackday toy.

Will have to start off a bit on the cheap side as money is tight but the list will grow as the year progresses.
Anyway, the car.
An E36 BMW 325i coupe. :D
Failed the MOT miserably (2 pages) and overheated in the petrol station (I had to leave it running while I went and paid for the fuel as the battery is knackered) on the way home from picking it up :D

On the scales before I even touch it to get some base weights..

First task, rip out everything I can to save as much weight as possible.

In the middle of chipping off all the sound deadening at the moment, that's seriously laborious.

More pictures next week as I think I will be taking a few days off to get on with it..
It HAS to be road ready and track safe for the end of August as she's going to the ring :D

Nah screw the overheating. Hell, if you take out the radiator fan completely you'll save a couple of pounds, and if it's not working atm, no loss, right? :p

Edit: Oh and you may as well swap out the battery for a motorbike one or less, just take a spare with you to jump-start it. F1 style. :D

shouldn't you be sorting the mot list and overheating issue first? lol

Taking the interior out and removing the sound deadening to stop it catching fire when I get the welding and cutting torch on it IS for the MOT ;) (sort of ;))

And the overheating is either a knackered viscous coupling or the lack of a shroud round the rad / fan. When I say over heated, the needle wasn't bent off the gauge into the red, I just spotted it throwing water out as I walked back to it so got it back on the Motorway as quick as possible, by the end of the slip lane the needle was dropping back to normal ish temp. :D

If you're serious about loosing car mass get rid of the side windows and carpet ;)

Are the windows an MOT requirement?

Perspex going in "soon" just got to find £300 space in the budget.

Carpets already out and bundled in the back of the 106 along with a load of other crap :D

Planning on putting a kenlowe leccy fan on the rad if it's the viscous coupling, will give me a horse power or two back as well. :D

Yep, getting a racing dry cell battery..

Lightest seats I found for sensible money are Sparco evo.

Do any of the 316 - 318 poverty models come with manual windows?
I need to get rid of the leccy motors for now so I can skin the doors properly with some carbon /ally sheet.

Should be a cracking project. Mate of mine picked up a E30 320i which he is planning to race in the production BMW series. Let the stripping begin!

Air con and those heavy heated front seats out as well? ;)

Bought one without aircon ;)

However it does have a sunroof which is a bit of a PITA as I have to cut the roof off and re skin it. :( (I think I'll leave that to the winter)..

Oh and yea everything rearward of the dash board is now in the back of the pug. :D
The only thing going back in will probably be the centre console / gear stick surround.

Under official Motors law, this car now need be scrapped for exceeding the "3 minor items only" legislation.

Most of the things it failed on are being scrapped anyway.
Leaking shocks - AST coilovers going on.
Brake hoses - Being braided
Anti roll bar links broken - Rose joints going in
Suspension arm bushes worn - being polyflexed
Rear springs snapped - AST's again

No drama :D

Not bad for £360 though

Pretty much everything wrong with it are all "common" faults, so I expect so..

My main concern at the moment is getting the floor pan under the diff carrier / rear subframe solid again after some ****ing eejit bodged it up. (Yet another common issue)

Sounds like you are embarking on an interesting project, good luck with it, I look forward to seeing the results at one of the RR days or something :)

\o/ Hooray the use of work experience peasants :D
I've got him chipping off the rest of the sound deadening whilst I take the rear window out. :D
Pictures once I've found a mini USB lead.
