Hi there,

I am 17 in august and I have been riding for a year on L's on a 50cc. I have always ridden motorbikes since I was 5 years old! I have just booked my theory for the 17th of this month and got my lessons in the first week of august then module one on 14th august and then going to book module 2. I have been practicing with the driving test programs and been getting 45/46 out of 50 on my theory mock tests! I am just after a bit of advise also I am unsure on what bike to look for when I pass. I would like a enduro of some kind but I only have a grand to buy one with. A KLR would be nice I will be using it to do my 250 mile commute each week till i pass my driving test as well in September-October!

Any suggestions on bikes would be great and tips on the tests!

You'll be limited to 33bhp so there's no point in going for something too big. A grand is Honda XR650 money. Big bulletproof thumper which is easy to work on and has a big following. They're pretty heavy so if you ever intend to take it off road, anything more than mucky green lanes is going to be hard work but for the tarmac and fireroads they're great.

I've been considering getting one and kitting it out for a bit of long distance touring and from all the research I've done, you can't really go wrong if you buy with your head screwed on.

I like the XR's but I can't seem to find any under a grand, I had a CR250 for a while which was good fun! Just looking forwards to getting my test sorted now!

I am now thinking of a sports bike aswell. Are there any suggestions there is a mint 1990 kawasaki zzr600 on ebay for £650 with 20k on it I am thinking about getting that?

I dont get why people like these, their not very good looking,(in my opinion) high revving, powerful or economical  (I suppose if restricted to 33bhp it wont 'that' much difference but there are quicker bikes restricted)

Why has high revving got to do with anything?
Its a V twin it has a lot more useable power from low down compared to a inline 4, different engine styles, a different way of making power and a different power delivery, some people prefer the low down out of corner power overs prefer the top end rush.

In theory the V twin would be better for the restriction as it has a lot of low down power.

because SV's sound awesome, have a lot of low down poke, are carbed on earlier ones and restricted ones don't feel gutless as without the restriction they're only a bit quicker instead of 2/3 quicker like a 600cc!

also they suit short arses, and are unfaired mostly so they can be dropped and not damaged like a faired bike.
