Nice surprise with my ageing 8800GT

As already said, Left for Dead is based on the HL2 "Source" engine I believe, albeit modified, so I wouldn't expect any 8800* card to struggle with it tbh.

My 8800gt is still alive and kicking in my GF's PC; currently stomping all over Sims 3 and L4d at 1440x900.

That card holds a special place in my heart.

Still got an 8800GT in my development PC and the odd time I use it for gaming (2048x res) it still does a great job for what it is...

The other good thing about the 8800GT is the software support. As it was sold by Apple for the Mac Pro, it is one of the most compatible cards for a Hackintosh or alternatively if you are prepared to flash the bios you can convert it to a Quadro pro Fx 3700 a hackers dream!!

PS Please note I do not condone law breaking of any sort...

This all sounds good getting a 8800 gts 512meg oc of a mate which should be slightly faster, glad it will give me some decent gaming at a cheap price.

I love my XFX FOC 8800GTX and I don't think I will upgrade till something comes out
that blows it away.

8800GT SLI

Hi

due to optimisation in the drivers 8800GT in SLI is supposed to be still the best SLI combination out there, even better than say 275 in SLI. Why not get another cheap 8800GT guys ?

It may scale better than the 275 in SLI but the performance will only be around the same level of performance probably just below it.

If the performance of 8800 SLI beat 275 SLI we would all be having GTX 295 performance for ~£100

I have just had to send off my 8800GT and I have dropped an X1800XT in there as atemporary cure and Im finding that the 1800 is just fine for all the games Im playing right now.

Dawn of War SoulStorm & DOW2 + HL2 + UT3

Im mightiliy impressed by the old X1800XT and as for crysis, I played that for about an hour and was very underwhelmed so I really dont care if the X1800XT cannot handle it because I myself cannot handle such tripe anyway... So, why have I got Crysis2 then?

8800gt is very nice. I have 2x 9800gt cards (basically just 55nm versions of the 8800gt).

With sli I can run crysis warhead on enthusiast at 1280x0124 (no "aa" caus it turns off the foliage aa that is usually on and looks better) over 40 fps with no mouse lag. Only need to see to my graphical performance when I move into win7 for a dx11 one... and a new monitor. Probably set me back £600 for those 3 things oh dear :(
