OH man! I just phoned vodaphone and asked for the HTC Touch Pro 2, I've spent days looking online at youtube video's trying to work out which phone I want, I finally come to a decision and call vodaphone asking for this phone because my contract is up and they said its only available to businesses so I cant have it.

OMG!

Why??!?!?!?

I dont understand, this is so rubbish, now am back to square one, I really want this phone though!

Is there anyone else that provides this phone? o2 or orange or anyone do you know?

Thanks in advance,

o2 don't do it... It's pretty rare for them to get any HTC handsets which is a shame.

I've seen reviews and videos of the Touch Pro 2 and it looks fantastic. I can certainly see why it's classed as a business phone, what with the an emphasis on conference calling with that huge speakerphone and mute button on back... But I really can't understand them providing it to consumers though, as even simpletons like ourselves could find a use for it.

Seems although Orange has it as an exclusive though, like some previous HTC's:

Are you seriously considering going for a Windows Mobile phone after all that looking around?

What do you mean?

I dont know much about the technical side, just been looking at videos and reading reviews.

I just spoke to vodaphone and said I wanted to cancel my contract because they wont give me the touch pro 2 because its only available for business users and now I dont know what to do because they told me they got a new phone on wednesday called the samsung jet and if I order that one I will have it by tuesday.

So now I've been watching video's on this new samsung jet and it looks good but so does the samsung omnia aswell and so does the HTC hero. So I dont know what to do or which phone to get, this is doing my head in.

Out of the ones mentioned, I would say try the HTC Hero. If you cant get it, then the Samsung Jet. I demoed the Omnia ages ago and I just hated it - even moreso than the horrible LG Renoir.

I would always recommend you get demo's of the mobiles your after... I found out with the Nokia N96 that while something may look good in reviews and videos, real life is not always the same deal! Demo's will help you figure out what will be best for you.

Id demo the phone first if you can.

Do you install a lot of apps? If you dont the Samsung Jet could be a possibility, be warned you wont be able to install may apps as it uses Samsungs own OS.

Most mobile shops will have their new and popular handsets either on display for hands-on demo's, but they may actually be hidden in the back stock-room. Just ask one of the sales-folk if you can demo the phone in question and 9 times out of 10 they will have no problem bringing their demo unit out for you.

I was at the o2 shop last month with my mum and managed to get them to open up a brand new Xperia X1 for her to demo - just talk nicely and demo's are a synch.

Try phoning Vodafone back to see if you have any luck with someone different on the other end of the phone.

For my last upgrade I managed to get their TYTN2 which was on the business section without any hassle so it may just be a case of you didnt speak to a good person.

Oh man! Yes! I phoned them back, thanks for the advice! it worked! I've got the phone! woohoo!!!!!!!!!!

He said this to me "I dont know why the other guy said you cant have it, you can have it, but its out of stock, we'll have it on thursday so if you call back then you can sign up with us again for another 18 months and we'll send the phone out to you thursday and you'll probably recieve it monday".

Jobs a good en!!!! Oh yeah baby!!!

HTC Touch Pro is now mine!!! woohoo!!!

Thanks people!:D

When Vodafone say it will be in stock on Thursday, what they really mean is, we have no idea when it's coming in, but it won't be on Thursday.

I went into every phone shop in town today to see if I could demo the touch pro 2 and not a single shop had it...and they didnt seem to know much about it or when they'd be getting them in stock.

Whats going on? When was this phone released? Seems strange, its like meant to be one of the best phones going and nobody has it, one vodafone shop had one of those ones on the stand with the false screen but it didnt work, I got to hold it though and see what the keyboard was like, and it was just as I expected.

I got to demo the samsung jet though and that seemed good but felt so small compared to the touch pro 2. The guy in the shop said that the jet was just like this older one and wasnt that special but it felt good to me.

I tell ya what I was shocked about though, that samsung omnia was massive, I picked that one up and had a look at it and it felt really big.

Anyways I think I'll just see what happens when I get this touch pro 2, you can send it back if ya dont like it so....but I reckon I'll fall in love with it straight away.

Hi Scotchegg,

Just thought I'd pass on a quick warning to you as I had an awful lot of trouble aquiring the TP2 about 3 weeks ago.

If I were you I would ring up vodafone and check to be sure that the phone that they are sending is indeed the Touch Pro 2, and not the original Touch Pro. When I rang up for an upgrage about a month ago, the guy on the phone had not even heard of the device, but managed to send me out what he thought was a TP2 as an upgrade to my existing contract. When it arrived it was sadly the original TP (I was fuming at the time as I was due to leave for South Africa five days later).

I then rang up VF that morning to explain what had happened, and that I wanted a TP2 as a straight swap but was told by a pretty unhelpful member of staff that under no circumstances could she give me a TP2, as it was a business only handset. I explained that it was for personal business use, she was willing to sell me other business only handsets but not the TP2. If i wanted a TP2 I would have to convert my account to a bussiness one.

In the end i had to go into my local voda shop and explain what was happening. They put me in contact with a business seller who basically sold me a new contract, i had to have a new number, but the handset and the pretty good deal i had made it worth the inconvinience (25quid for 700mins unlimited landline, 250 text and web package, 24month contract).

The fact that you mentioned the limited stock of the phone, and my own experiences with unhelpful sales staff not wanting to provide the TP2 leads me to think that they may be sending you out the old touch pro. Worth a quick call for piece of mind i reckon.

Don't worry too much about the WM os the phone is running, the Touch Flo 3d hides it pretty well if all you are looking for a user friendly device, and the option is there for extensive tweaking should you require it. Any questions feel free to ask.

Sorry about the long post by the way!

I would not buy a phone without having a demo first. I tried HTC, BlackBerry and Samsung in store before buying an iPhone.

It took me a while to be allowed to get a Touch Pro when that was coming out. I just kept ringing and most CSR's kept saying no as it's business only but I registered for updates on the site and a guy rang me and I placed an order there and then and got it a few days later.

Windows Mobile can be a pain but if you persevere with it and use XDA Developers wisely then you can customise it to your needs. If have flashed mine to NATF's 4.7S 6.1 ROm and love it. Just figuring out how to set up UC so when i update the rom it will auto configure itself to my personal settings.

My mum also has a Samsung Omnia (I don't like it but she does!) and she uses Excel on it all the time. It's so funny when she walks around supermarkets with her shopping list open in Excel ticking things off!
