Why is velour more expensive? I've got some rubbish generic carpet mats in my 01' Mondeo that I'm going to replace today but I've just noticed on a ford parts website that the velour are a lot more expensive. Surely rubber is the way to go as they're easier to clean?

Rubber mats all the way, non slip, easy clean, dont hold "smells" if they do get dirty and they dont get wet/hold water.

Every time Ive been in a car with rubber mats they have not only looked horrible, but turn into a slippery squeaky mess the moment you step in with wet shoes.

The Ford velour mats are much more hardwearing and are worth the extra IMO. I had the carpet ones and the metal holding lugs and heel would be gone in 12 months. I bought a set of velour mats in 2004 and they still come up like new with a bit of carpet cleaner. The holding lugs are also much larger plastic and don't tear the mat like the metal ones do.

The velour look an awful lot nicer than rubber, but if you're in and out with dirty feet all the time then rubber is more pratical I guess.

I've got rubber mats and they don't squeak plus when they get mucky I had just hose them off. Carpet feels a bit weird on my feet when driving.

the main problem I've had with carpet mats is the grass that can be a pain to hoover out if it gets stuck in the fabric, which is why I was thinking rubber would be a lot easier in that respect.

Fair enough, I always found them a bit slippery. Have the standard carpet mats in mine, just give them a good beating/hoovering when Im cleaning the car :)

Get the Velour - I am not a fan of rubber.

These mats are nearly 140,000 miles old, so there's no excuse for not keeping them clean ;):

All they require is a quick shampoo with interior cleaner every 6 months.
