Hi,

I need some advice on games for my new PS3 I got through a mobile phone contract rather than purposely buying it for gaming.

I'm looking for easy/non complicated control/arcade type games.

I've always played Quake III (currently Quake live), played hardcore Wow until I saw the light and dabbled with Battlefield series on PC, and Everybody's Golf on PSP, what a fantastic little game.

Probably looking for a driving game to get me started (tempted to get a steering wheel as I've really got onto the Grand prix this year). May also downlaod Stardust to get me started on (PSN?), seems like it could be fun for short gaming blasts.

Btw can you download free demos off the PS network like on PC?

Any good independant gaming charts online?

Thanks

for the driving f1 championship edition is quite arcadey. Good fun with steering wheel. and despite the drivers and teams being from 05 or 06 the game still looks great and the first person view with heavy rain looks amazing.

tht sega mega drive pack came out a few months back looks pretty decent - streets of rage

Project gotham 4, Wipeout HD and Grid are great fun arcade type racers, GT5 Prologue if you want more realism

Super Stardust HD is fantastic fun and highly recommended and available for a bargain price I do believe of under £2!

and yes you can download demos too

Thansk

Yes you can download Demos through the PSN, that should probably be your first port of call. :)

Super stardust is good fun, and if you enjoy everybody's golf on the PSP, you're bound to enjoy the PS3s version. :)

I love everybodys golf 1 and 2 on the PSP but after recently getting it on the PS3, the PSP versions are pretty much redundant. The PS3 version is much better. I really enjoy the online games.

If you want an older driving game then the HD revamp of GTI club looks quite good on PSN. There's a free demo or the full game is £7.99 I think.

Wipeout HD is a game that shouldn't be missed imo. Cheap as chips at just over £10 last time i saw too, tis a PSN only download.

Little Big Planet is very much an old school style platformer, can also be had very cheap.

Although it's not in the same league as the Mario and Sonic games of old.

Aye but not being as good as the best platformers ever made is hardly a sin is it? :p LBP is still a great little game imo, true it isn't one of the greatest platformers ever made and true it wasn't the system seller Sony hoped but it's certainly worth the less than £15 price tag these days. I wasn't disappointed and i paid full price for it.

I suppose you've got a point there and maybe it's just me that was expecting a bit more from it because of all the hype.

I wanted to like it but I never really got into it.

Games that aren't the best platform games ever made that are still better than it include:
Bubble Bobble
Castlevania
Donky Kong
Ghosts n Goblins
Gods
The Killing Game Show
Mega Man
Metroid
Midnight Resistance
Prince of Persia (the old one)
Rainbow Islands
Ratchet and Clank
Shinobi

:p

I must say i disagree with most of them, i think LBP is one of the best games on the PS3 for co-op play, may not be the best platformer ever made but there isnt many out there where as much fun can be had with friends.

Unreal Tournament 3? Iirc you can apply mods on the PS3 version as well.

Everbody's Golf World Tour on PS3 is an awesome game as well.

F1 is good but it's old now.

But most of all you must get Metal Gear Solid 4.

It's like comparing apples and oranges mate.

I was just having a bit of fun.

Rainbow Islands was awesome though.

I just got GRID and thats nice and arcadey in a good way. Not too serious smash people to one side. Awesome graphics and decent online. £15 second hand (bit steep I thought) but it'll pay for itself in a few weeks when i've racked up hours of gameplay :)
