Im 6"0 and 13stone 4 pounds and my family say im fat. Its got me really confused as i genuinly believe im not fat...but maybe i cant see it for some phsychological reason.
Basically for the last month and a half, maybe two months now, ive changed my training.
For a year and a half i was training for the army so i used to do lots of cardio, running, bike etc, and i was about 12stone 6 pounds maybe a bit less.
But after not being in the army, i changed my training to something the complete opposite, bulking/body building. Im not working at the moment and i do very little cardio work only 10 mins on the crosstrainer. Anyway ive changed my diet, im taking protein drinks and a protein bar.
My granparents say im getting fat and my mum just said im fat and she can see it on my arms saying its not muscle but fat.

Going by my height and weight ive posted does that sound like im fat?
Should i post a pic of myself on here, cause i really want a genuine answer.

A pic would be a good place to start.

It really depends how you're built, I'm 6ft 2" and 162 lbs atm but I've got a slim build. You could be a tank and thus way more than me. Only a picture can really say.

A pic would be required to tell considering you're bodybuilding, and whats your overall diet like? Protein bars are generally full of crap and protein drinks aren't miracle fuel either.

I have to say i do have a pretty good diet for example today ive had:

Breakfast:
porridge with proones and a bit of honey
apple juice

10:30am
protein drink

lunch:
steak potatoes peas mushrooms

apple

2:30:
protein bar

3:30:
protein drink

5:30:
pasta and tuna

later on:

7:30:
protein drink

supper:
could be soup,pasty, jacket potato

Edit BTW ive only been bulking up for about a nearly two months, the gym instructor said im making really good progress in bulking up so im going by his word.

Your relying a lot on protein products, try and eat more real food. Make sure to also get plenty of fruit and veg in there. It's not just protein that makes a strong physique.

It's not a bad diet and I doubt it would get you fat (if the quantity of food was reasonable), but you should try eat whole meals rather than protein shakes and a pasty in the evening is just plain terrible, full of saturated fat and pastry. I'd still post a few pics up if you're unsure and want reassurance. Highly unlikely anyone will poke fun at you, as a lot of people started out with a really high body fat.

Ill post pics tonight, in the meantime going by my height and weight what does that make me on the BMI?

Google it, but I wouldn't worry about BMI its not a good representation of your physique really. The Mirror is always the best way to rate yourself.

Probably just over a bit overweight on the BMI scale, it's not accurate for people who weight train as all pro bodybuilders, and even some of the bigger people are obese on the BMI scale with really low body fats.

That dont sound good, i used to be before changing my fitness program to bulking up i was perfect on the BMI. But like you said its probably wrong, ill post pics tonight.

Well what do you think? When bulking you're likely to gain at least some fat. If you feel that you're putting on a little bit too much fat compared to the muscle mass which you are gaining, then try and bulk more cleanly.

You really need to post a picture, then people will be able to estimate your %bodyfat.

Ultimately though, it's what you think which matters. You know what your levels of fitness are, you know what levels of fitness are required for your job, and you know how you want to look. So sod them, I bet they can't lift what you can, or run as far as you can, and how many of them serve Queen and country?

Post a pic! I've got no problem telling you, maybe your family thinks this bulking up is fat under your clothes when it actually isnt.

That is quite high body fat but nothing too alarming, if you want to bulk up I would suggest a lean bulk to try reduce the body fat a bit though. In the end if you're not bothered then thats what counts. Also you should just put the image as:

You aren't fat at all, you just dont have any tone

:(
That word is banned from sports arena :p.
I wouldn't bother cutting because you won't have much to cut to either so a clean bulk seems the best idea, maybe wanton or freefaller might come in to give you some good nutrition advice ;).

You're in the exact same position as me! I'm still trying to find the best way to cut my excess stomach fat and tone up a bit. I've been thinking along the lines of a Velocity Diet/Keto Diet.

Sorry, but t was the best way to say to the op hes not a chubber, but he looks soft :p

Your not fat really but at least your parents are on your case instead of mollycuddling you. Get out and play some football, do some cardio in the gym. Skipping is great for getting toned and burning cals.

Try to do 4 days a week, 2 full body weight sessions and 2 cardio sessions. Get your diet spot, high protein, low carbs, low fat. I would try for 2500 cals on training days, 1800/1900 on non-training days.

I'm just been general here. What sports do you enjoy? Do you have a diet?
