I'm after a new monitor, upgrading from my 19" Samsung to a 24". £250 budget. For general desktop use (browsing, Word etc), movies and games. I've been looking at these three:

The first is 1920x1080, 50,000:1 and 5ms.

Second is 1920x1200, 20,000:1 and 5ms.

Third is 1920x1080, 20,000:1 and 2ms.

Of 1920x1200 and 1920x1080, is one better than the other for certain applications? I think my 19" is 2ms - will I notice a difference moving to 5ms?

1920x1200 is better for general PC stuff 1920x1080 is better for watchign movies as the bars at the top and bottom are smaller. I have the Samsung T240 and i really like it i'm no expert though.

Those are all TN, pretty much all you are going to get for the price.

As usual I will suggest losing 2 inches and getting the far superior panel of the Dell 2209WA. If you have only experienced TN panels then this sounds like madness - but It is the better option if you want the best image quality and viewing angles.

If you must go for a 24in - then the T240 is perfectly adequate. This one is the king non-TN 24in panel of the moment.......wait a second ....they removed the HP, ****.
In that case, this monitor is great but its waaaay out your price range so never mind.

TBH, a few pixels doesn't matter that much. Its panel types that make the real difference. If you put a TN next to an IPS you will see the difference.

Aye it is a shame, you may want to send a webnote to OCUK asking when they expect it back in stock. As far as I know Its still in production, so hopefully its just a temporary absence.

Erm, why not get the HP from somewhere else then? There are other shops ya know, if OCUK wont stock what you want, why stay loyal and buy something you don't really want...

Actually has anyone else noticed that OCUK's overall stock has seriously diminished in all areas lately. Look around the store, tons of stuff has just disappeared.

And as much as i love that Dell's style (i had a 2407), the 2408 has too much input lag, it's not in the same league as the HP, so go find it elsewhere and be happy.

I had to order the HP from somewhere else, it can be hard sometimes to get all the parts from the same place, there's always something out of stock.

Hear Hear! Source it elsewhere if OcUK can't get it back.

No input lag on my 2408 A01 though, unless you've owned one you can't really comment tbh.

To be fair the input lag has been slashed on later revisions of the Dell, however the HP is slightly lower and has an H-IPS panel.

As you say neologan Overclockers' product lines do seem to be dropping generally, this may be due to either End Of Life items - sometimes they only last a few months, or just clearing less popular stuff and not restocking.

Wow, so in 3 weeks we've lost the NEC GX3 (out of production) and the HP (Don't know why, maybe the exchange rate pushed the price up too much).

I'm so glad my HP arrived 2 weeks ago (I would have had the NEC, but I hadn't sorted my finances out until the day after the NEC went AWOL).

No indication the HP is EOL on google, the other stockist is still selling them with voucher discount, brings the price down to £388 :)

Thanks guys. What is the model number of this HP everyone is talking about?

If I go with the T240 and hook it up to a freeview/Virgin TV box, will it let me watch HD channels?

I would like to go for 24" so, for £250, can I do better than the T240?

would be interest for a source to the slashed input lag on the Dell, i must have missed it. As far as i know all current S=PVA's have pretty nasty input lag and none of the manufacturers have corrected it

Must admit, aside from those Hazro's, the Dell has always been the best looking LCD out there, it's a work of art.

LOL

HP monitor is good and I CAN'T Get it from elsewhere because i'm not a UK mainland person i LIVE in MALTA and it prettyy bad for me to get it form other suplliers because i would pay extra delivery rates...

That's why i might actually go for the DELL,it the only choice apart The SAmsung T240...It might be my only choice to downgrade the monitor and buy a good graphics card...How bad is the viewing angle of it? 160 v and H...
is it that bad from 176 or how much...

Sorry while im writing this im am extremely drunk and really have a lot of mistakes but im in my mind to deciede right now to downgrade from wished HP to Dell or The Samsung T240 just to save a hundred pounds...:D

Anyways waiting for ur opinions people...

Should i Get the T240 or DeLL 2408?

I'm going to be gaming mostly and browsing I-net.... So it it really worth buying DELL and LOSING 100 pounds or getting T240 and investing in a graphics card and some more stuff for my new system?

EDIT: HP is back on OCuk but still is it worth it?? I mean most people buy it for graphics and photoshop stuff...is it really worth for gaming?
