Tales Of Monkey Island

'They' (LucasArts) have actually said that, depending on the success of this remake, they'll be looking at remaking their other classics from their games catalogue.

Buy it!

WOO HOO

Pre-Ordered - Think I got in just in time to get the special edition artwork :)

Looking forward to this... love these type of games and TTG are the VALVE of their Genre in my opinion.

Have gone for Sam & Max Ep1 too :)

Does anyone know what time this is coming out tomorrow?

New episodes are usually either out by the time I'm home from work, or the next morning due to the time difference unfortunately. :(

I'd agree, and the value for money is incredible. :)

Digital download, followed by a free hard copy of the game when all the episodes are released. Everybody's happy!

I'm really looking forward to playing this!
I’ve been waiting for it since the voodoo lady declared she was signed up for a 5 game contract haha.
I was slightly apprehensive about a new game as I much preferred the style of curse rather than the jump to 3d in escape but this looks really great. Also it didn’t help that the controls on escape were absolutely dreadful. At least the humour always makes up for that!

Think I will wait as the reviews are coming out now. One reviewer only gave it 7.5/10. The others sound too gushing to take seriously. Gfx also look out of place they should have made it flat 2D like MI3. MI4 showed MI does not work very well in 3D.

MI4 has a complete 3d control system.

These new games are still point and click just with updated graphics, and I'm sure the gameplay will be almost the same as 1,2 and 3. :)

The Sam and Max games have made the change flawlessly, and I'm expecting MI to do the same. :)

Hopefully, people don't forget it's episodic content and complain that it's too short...

Pre-ordered this yesterday :)

Talk on their forums is that it'll be about 9am Western USA time so about another 4 - 5 hours from now fingers crossed.. Can't wait to play it even though it'll kind of put Arma II on hold lol.

What's the DVD thing that you can get for pre-ordering - will that be available after all episodes have been released? I'm either a total n00b or the website's as uninformative as I think it is...

Once all the episodes have been released, they will send you a shiny DVD with an exclusive DVD slipscase painted by Steve Purcell.

You simply pay for postage which people tell me from ordering from TTG before is no more than a few quid to the UK :)

I love how they do business, seems like they self publish so they have no greedy publishers taking their cut.

You get the benefit of Digital downloads + a DVD, case and manual at the end for £27 (with postage) - Fantastic.

MI4 controls are terrible. Many could not even complete the game as they got so fed up with how clunky it was along with the poor puzzles like the monkey fight. Even the PS2 version had the same awful control scheme and it was designed for the controller only. Thats why I am happy to wait as I already read a review which complains about the control layout being clunky and only gives this 7.5/10.

4.5/5

For those of you who have been hoping against hope for a true Monkey Island 5, this is it. Telltale Games understands this series and have done a truly impressive job dusting off the pieces and putting together something startlingly close to the series we remember so well. While it might not be able to trump Guybrush's 2D glory days, it's on its way to besting Escape from Monkey Island, and well worth the time for any serious fan. Telltale Games is finally living up to their promise as heirs to the LucasArts legacy, and Tales of Monkey Island could be their best effort yet.

8/10 - "GREAT"

I’ve been ranting about this game for more than a thousand words now. It seems kind of excessive for a game that is about a quarter of the length of your average video game, but this was kind of an important release for me. I came in with huge expectations, and I wasn’t let down. Tales of Monkey Island is pretty much exactly what I expected a Telltale-developed Monkey Island game to be. This is Guybrush Threepwood, he just had a new dimension added. The heart of the series is present, and despite a couple of niggling flaws, I’m excited for what the coming months will bring.

8/10 - "Recommended"

How the series develops from this point onward is obviously going to be critical and the season as a whole could fall flat at any point – which it almost does at the anti-climatic ending to this episode – but Screaming Narwhal is a stunning debut on the whole. Anyone with a sense of humour or a passion for adventure games would be doing themselves an injustice if they let Tales of Monkey Island pass them by without investigation, even if it won’t truly be a ‘Must Play’ until the entire season is available and we can judge the experience as a whole. Sceptics might want to wait and see how the reviews for the rest of the season play out and then pick up the entire set in one fell swoop, but our time with the game tells us that there's no harm in jumping in and trying the first episode right now. It's awesome.

9/10

Overall, Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal is a great addition to any adventure gamer’s library. The game should please longtime fans of Monkey Island, as well as players who have yet to experience the series. Tales of Monkey Island is certainly not the most deep game, but it’s probably the funniest.

Ultimately, the greatest compliment I can pay this game is that it is, purely and simply, Monkey Island.
