hi,

i intend to have a go at overclocking my setup, had it awile now and not done it yet. tomorrow i get a new hard drive and after i have messed around with that i intend to overclock.

what i would like to know is if my artic freezer 7 pro is good enough to keep an overclocked q9400 cool or is it just not up to it?

if its the later can some one suggest a better cooler.

short answer is yes it will, but only to a certain lvl, i have a friend that has a Q9550 slightly overlcocked with that cooler and it runs fine, he is now getting the titan fenir, as that will allow him greater headroom for overclocking..

The freezer pro is great on dual cores, average on quads, so personally id stuggest testing how far u can go with it, and if u still want to go further, get something like the titan fenir or above, but for cost titan wins in my eyes

As bifday2k has said, the freezer will be fine upto a certain point, with my previous q6600 (which run a bit hotter than q9*** cpu's) the freezer was good upto 3.4ghz, when i went above this speed it couldnt cope that well, so i replaced it with a thermalright ultra extreme.

would like to hit 3.5, how far has your friend got the q9550? i will post the temps i get when i give it a go tomorrow

Found his post on another forum, damn i forgot how high he actully got it lol
copied and pasted , ignore the times they are just superpi 1m times

Q9550 @ 3.825GHz = 12.309s

@ 4GHz = 11.731s

@ 4.27GHz = 11.045s (These are all at stock voltage!!!)

Also had a Q6600 running upto 3.8ghz but he said core 3 allways craped out on him under stress tests, but he had a stable 3.6ghz

basicly it all depends on how much voltages u need to pump into it really, as u can see he got rather high on stock, so the freezer pro was fine, but it also handled his other cpu @ 3.6ghz, so for a cheap cooler i still say it beats some of the top end ones.

id stick with what u have now, and only if u really need to switch.
