Have applied for this course as a way to get doing something rather then waiting for jobs to begin opening up and was wondering if anyone here has done it and what they thought of it/how in-depth it is.

The SRC description is:

Did it at MANCAT and while it LOOKS great it was not very good :(

However, i did it @ MANCAT on the horrible eMacs...

Interface design = Adobe Director, that was the best module i took.
Web dev = Dreamweaver, didn't learn a thing the tutor didn't know any css and just taught old html methods.
Mutliemedia authoring = Paperwork
Typography = Illustrator, didn't have the best tutor for it but was great fun. Watch the documentry called Helvetica :)
Audio and Video = iMovie and Soundtrack :/ Such a horrible module. Involved using a very poor quality camera, writing scripts, showboards etc..
3d Anim = 3ds Max... Great little module, we had 4 lessons to make a room lol.

That is from MY experience @ a horrible college.

It's a great course for a 'general view' of the media industry.

Cheers Thorpy.

TBH, this college isn't great either. The only thing that made it enjoyable on my last course was the people in my class. Hoping I will actually do some work this time round though. I remember watching an entire Dylan Moran gig on Youtube during an Operating Systems class while the tutor waffled on about Accessability features of Ubuntu. :p

No problem :)

The main problem i had was simple, (this sounds so egotistical) i was far too ahead for the course. While me and a mate were designing posters, magazine covers, working in After Effects, trying to push ourselves further into the industry the rest of the class were learning how to use the move tool and such.

So yea, i sound like a tit but i learnt this stuff at home when i was around 14-15. I got incredibly frustrated with the lack of industry standard work and just lost complete interest in the course, ended up missing classes but still handing in the work. Walked out with a distinction but had to bite my lip so hard :p

Urgh, it's not going to be that sort of level is it? :(

Was the same in my National Diploma in Computing. Knew most of what was happening so tended to cruise. :(

Lol :p

I did the ND Computing too and moved to the Media course after a year :D

It was that level in MY college, i had one amazing tutor who understood we were ahead and let us be and got interested in our 'non college work' more than any other tutor.

They all follow the same sylabus (sp?) but it can vary. From my experience: A levels win, BTECs do not :p

If your the same as me and are very computer savvy then the course will be a BREEZE but won't challenge you I'm afraid :(

Essenially, I'm there to learn more on CSS and various coding as well as Flash and animation. Hope it goes to some degree of depth in these areas.

I'm really the bad news guy here >_<

CSS was non existent :(
In Flash we learnt how to shape/motion tween, keyframing and the lark. The basics, don't get me wrong they need to be understood but i expected more from it :(

Anything in computing leads to uni these days which I think is a shame its a job that needs hands on experience I went to college and did IT and it was just class based work and IT has a stigma that going to uni means you are the best of the best, I went back to college to do plumbing and just done a full time course and the recession has knocked me back in terms of work, gutting.

I can't afford to go to Uni and I refuse to riddle myself with debts.

I hear that but I've had a helluva time so far :D

Drop us a line on MSN my email is in trust if you ever want a chat about Media! I'd add ya but it's not in your trust :p
