Or are they really a great bunch of lads as father ted says? This morning sat in the hotel there was one at the next table no more than a metre from me. Every 2 or 3 minutes he'd let out an almight release of burpage - this wasn't a series of discrete ones either! Maybe a burp is a word in china but i think its just a bit rude. Every the americans or germans don't do that! Just some random early morning musings.

You do realise how many chinese people in the world there are right? Youre taking 1 man and classifying his behaviour as how the rest of the chinese behave.

So if I saw a Brazilian fart really loudly in a restaurant, should I think all Brazilians behave like this?

Im sure theres plenty of Americans and Germans who do the same, but none of them have sat next to you in a hotel restaurant before.

I read a thread on a forum once by this person from Northern Ireland who generalised about the Chinese because one burped near him in a hotel.

I can only assume from this that all people from Northern Ireland generalise about whole races of people from the actions of 1 person from that race.

I'd hate to generalise like that myself.

Perhaps this is just a lighthearted early morning ramble? Most people generally have some sense of manners in public places. It just happened to be a chinese today. And no we don't generalise people!

I find the chineses boys are generally rather rude in public places. Not being courteous, not holding doors open etc. Always earphones in, ignoring the world.

Not generalising though ;)

Some people have different customs and standards as to what is acceptable. In Japan it is rude not to slurp your noodles and young men will jabber at you until you stop using your mobile on the train. In China, people burp or fart sometimes but don't get too upset about it as it is a normal bodily function. In Scotland it is okay to mock the Irish for being stupid.

Well you're right and to carry on this trend! :p

I was working in a hostel last year and we let out three five bedroom apartments for a group of Chinese people for a few weeks.

The time came round for the cleaners to go in and all three flats were an absolute mess! The cleaners ended up being something stupid like 10 hours behind in their cleaning because of the time taken on these flats. Wasn't exactly a smooth running day!

Grease everywhere and chicken bones galore!

Damn Chinese! :p

Its rude not to burp after a meal in China, also the women find it attractive apparently.
