Looking to upgrade from my 8800GTX.

I plan on building a whole new system at some point next year, so looking for a new GPU to see me through until then.

Was about to buy a 260-216 when I looked at the 275's which are not that much more expensive. From a quick look at the spec's, the 275's appear to be the better cards.

I currently game at only 1366 x 768 and want something that's going to cope well with the current cop of games and will work well with my quad at that res.

Given they almost cost the same, surely I'm better off going for the 275?

Any help appreciated.

if you are planning to upgrade your monitor than yes I would a gtx260 216 is a capable card through

If you've got the cash then a 275 will last better. I would have said about getting a 4890, but with the recent 275 price drops they've become probably the best bang for buck card at the moment.

Bit late now - but at 1366 x 768 resolution you will most likely see no performance difference between a 260 and 275.

Doubt it - like 2fps difference at 16x AA I'd imagine at that res... you'd have to be playing at 1920x or so to really see a much difference in the performance between the 2 cards.

your point has been taken, but op may upgrade monitor in the future. or just hope so

At all above, for an extra £12 or so, I feel the extra capacity the 275 gives me is useful as I sometimes hook up the PC to the main 1080p TV.

Also, it will allow my to upgrade to a 40" 1080p (from 32" 720p) before I upgrade the sytem, if the right deal comes along. Finally, when I do go for a main components upgrade, there's every chance the 275 will still cope well enough for me to hold back for the next due release/refresh of GPU's, hopefully leaving me some headroom on cost for the new system.

I understand the 260 & 275 will be very close at 1366 x 768, but for the reasons above and the extra £12 is nothing over the year or so I plan to keep the card. Even less bother if I decide to get some cash in for the 8800GTX.
