High Temps on Intel i7 920

The reason your multiplier is dropping will be because you have EIST and C1e enabled in your BIOS...

Disabling those 2 features will keep the multi @ 20 (or 21 if you have Turbo enabled)

Look for something called "Advanced CPU Features" or something close to that, it should be there along with virtualization etc.

temps are alright for i7 they intend to get hot . i prefer my cool q9650

No idea tbh, I quite like that fact that my 4ghz i7 only draws 20w when its idle as apposed to over 130w all the time

Mine was idling at around 34/35 and 56/57 under full load (Prime).

I have an Antec 902 with the fans up and it was quite loud. I have turned all the fans down to low and now it is idle at around 39/40 and loads to 60/61. Does that sound safe enough?

^^ yes, its much safer then mine.

at x12 multiplier i idle at around 52, at load, well if thats the idle, i dont want to see the load temps, especially with a stock cooler.
