I'm looking to buy a new mixer for my DJ setup. Now, i'm looking for something really well built, i've had Vestax mixers over the years which when they've broke i've been forced to throw away as no-one wants to repair them, which suprised me a bit as they're not cheap £40-50 mixers.

What are the Xone series like? I'd need 4 channels (2x1210's and a CDJ) so was thinking of the Xone42....Anyone got/used one?

Other suggestions are the Pioneer DJM600 which i've used before and are fairly simple but build quality is supposed to be questionable?

Cheers. :)

On the Ecler on, I've had a Nou3 for a few years now and its still as good as new. Doesn't have a huge amount of use as I mix rarely these days. The cross faders in mine are replaceable by their eternal fader which are guaranteed for a million passes or something like that, the 4 my come with them as standard.

Sounds good, i'm gonna see if my local DJ shop will get them both in and setup side by side so I can have a play and compare...I've used A&H's in the past and they've felt a bit strange but i'm sure I could get used to them....

I always preferred Pioneers, but it depends on what you want out of a mixer. The build quality might not be as good as on a xone, but if it's for home use I cannot see how that's ever a problem, and the newer Pioneers seem a lot better on that front anyway.

I'm plannin to upgrade my aging DJM500 to a Xone42 hopefully soon, especially since the A&H now make to Xone42 in black now and you can get it for £544 (was £699 when it came out).

Have used one before at a party and was seriously impressed with the quality of the analogue filters and the line faders, as well as havin full-cut eq's

The build quality on the Xone isn't amazing either really, I've had to replace the RCA jacks on a few of them... :(

That said, I'd buy one over a pioneer, they have better quality faders and things like that...

If you're looking for build quality and longevity then look at Rane and the upper end of the Vestax Pro series. I've used many a mixer over the years and these 2 ranges are bulletproof. The only 2 makes I'd actually trust in travelling with and knowing they'd not let me down.

Stay well clear of Pioneer. Over-priced cheap plastic toys. ;)

Without even going into the build quality of the rest of the mixer...the crossfader is appalling on it. It is a fail on the most important part of a mixer. It is simply not built to be thrashed and also feels cheap, the curve is also ridiculous. I understand it's really popular due to all the gimmiks but compared to other mixers in the same price bracket it is simply laughable in it's build quality.

I was planning on getting Serato in a couple of months but apparantly you can only use it with one channel on the xone?

Nope, SL1 box outputs are just basic line-outs and the xone has line-in on each channel ;)

As long as I can use 2 channels with my 1210's and another 2 with Serato it's all good. :)

Could I not use the USB output at the same time as a mic input though? (see top panel of mixer) or does that small push button just switch the gains from the USB to the mic and vice versa?

Edit: Rane are definately out my budget, don't think they go upto 4 channel either...

If you are planning on using FS then I'd definitely recommend getting a TTM57sl. The FS alone will set you back £400. If the mixer you're looking at is any more than 415 then just get the 57sl. Even though most places now have it listed at about £1150 I've seen it online at £815 in the UK.

You don't need any more than a 2 channel mixer for SL. It just uses the line inputs on your channels. There would be no advantage to having it on a seperate channel. The fact that you're using it means that the decks will be in use and so the phono is defunct at that time anyway. ;)

The Allen and Heath mixers are not too bad. They've got nice faders although the build quality is still lagging behind Rane and Vestax Pro series.

It is well worth buying something that's going to last you and take a good beating. The last thing you want is crackling faders after a short while. After listening to what you're looking for I'd recommend the 57sl. It may seem a lot but it's pretty good value if you're definitely planning on getting SL anyway. Besides that, it would just be better to have that integration. Being able to control SL directly from the mixer is an extremely handy feature as well as it just being in one unit. ;)

If you have the money, Pioneer DJM800, fantastic mixers, cost over a grand though!!!

if you have less money, then Pioneer DJM600, it ruled as the industry standard in clubs for years!! very good mixer, you could probably pick one up for about ~£350 used or £550 new
