Will You Buy Windows 7???

so it's a minor update then (like i said), which shouldn't sell at major update prices. i just feel it's a money making exercise (yes it's a business blah blah blah blah but) it's essentially vista tarted up a bit and a bit more like what vista was supposed to be.

no need to get those knickers of yours in a twist ;)

Just like XP was and just like 98 was. It's nothing new.

As Burnsy said, so was XP (it was a minor update to win2k, that just happened to also be the first version where business and consumer OS converged, which originally had been planned for XP). Win 3.1, win 98, Win ME etc were all the same.

Don't try and claim it's something new, it's not, and it's not cynical either. XP and the lifespan it had were a major exception, and resulted from the length of time it took to recode the major changes from XP to Vista needed to ensure windows progressed over time. The history of PC's is full of examples like this, and they all share the idea that some people hated the new variant when it first came out, or that the new variant didn't perform as well as the existing one (eyes the pentium pro) but were vital in the long run.

Any news on Windows 7's gaming experience btw? I heard that it's actually going to be WORSE for gamers...

i'm not going to argue about it. there will be and there are a lot of people up in arms about it. and that's all i will say on the subject.

also why dismiss someone asking about gaming on W7 and then dismiss him again when he comes up with some tests that have been carried out? i doubt there were many pre vista release who thought it would be worse for gaming than XP but the result is history.

Are the Windows 7 versions listed for pre order in the UK full retail versions,or just upgrades?
On the US page they are listed as upgrades, but I can't see that on the UK page!

Full versions apparently, as the UK/Europe won't be getting the upgrade version (at least initially) due to lack of IE.
