E92 M3 v Evo X FQ-400

the Evo is a great kit but 50 grand  no chance

Are you inside my head?

My thoughts exactly. First problem is the nasty interior, you can't help but imagine you'd be a little deflated sitting inside that after parting with £50k.

Also alarm bells started ringing when they mentioned snap oversteer, personally I hate this in a car, it's drains confidence and that spoils enjoyment, though admitedly they went on to say you can power through it. But still, my driving style is smooth and I don't like surprises.

While I admire it as a piece of engineering, no way would I drop £50K on that Evo. I presume it also has the microscopic service intervals of previous Evos, meaning that running costs will be higher as well?

I'm no fan of Japanese cars in general, but if I were then surely that is not far off the price of a GTR? I know which I'd rather have.

No question, really, is it - M3 all the way.

Or, alternatively, when you consider you can get the brand-new 'Victory' class Corvette C6 with 437BHP/424ft.lb and a factory 6-speed manual, for £49,882 straight from the dealers in the UK, the Evo looks even less appealing - and the C6 is infinitely cheaper than both to keep on the road whilst being that little bit more entertaining.

Impressive but far too expensive for a smallish plastic Japanese saloon, no mater how massive it's turbo charger is. It shouldn't be more than £30k tops imo.

Is there a thread where you don't talk about getting a Corvette? :p

M3 everyday. Not a big jap car fan (bleurgh interiors) although the Evo does look pretty mean.

He may talk about Corvette's a lot, but I appreciate it, they are great cars and rather unusual this side of the pond.

Boss has just had a C6, nice car but very basic.

I'd have the M3. Don't like Jap, hate massive turbo's, hate Evo's...all boy racer, get some elegance!!

50k is way way too much for this car. 400bhp does not cost that much to achieve! For 50k, I'd want an Evo to have a nice 500bhp! But we all know that's not going to happen. If I ever had that much money to spend on a new car, it definitely would not be an Evo FQ-400.

With the Evos £50k price tag it kinda takes it into a different league of cars. Don't get me wrong I love Evos but for that price I'd be looking more at the M3s and Skylines. I don't think I could spend more than £30k on one.

I bum evo's to high heaven but theres no way an FQ400 is worth that much.

You could buy an FQ300, mod it to 400 with supporting mods, and buy some lovely carbon stick on tat and still end up with change.

You can simply get much more for your money.

Why are you all saying the Evo is overpriced but not the M3? How is the M3 worth the 50k but the Evo isn't? I'd say both were overpriced. If I had 50K and I had to chose one of those two cars, I'd get the Evo.

Because the M3 is a quality piece of kit when you look at the rest of the car, look at the service intervals, they are variable and can be up to 20,000 miles apart unlike the EVO's, then there is the interior check out the difference in look and feel when you sit in the two, not to mention the fact the M3 comes with all sorts of cool gadgets as standard being the top of the range model. The M3 is therefore quite cheap when the standard 4pot engine costs about 22k for the cheapest most bog standard lowest of the low model in saloon form.

M3 for me everyday, not going to be as fast point to point but I'm sure it will be much more rewarding.

If I had £50k to spend I would be looking for an NSX-R or the Skyline R35.

SoliD - Would you honestly leave the same oil in any car you cared about for 20k miles? I would give a car an oil change after 10k regardless of what the manufacturer claims.

Evo = £30k for the car...£20k for a big turbo

M3 = £50k for one of the best cars that money can buy

Not to mention the Evo is ugly as sin and desperately wants to be something it isn't with that daft exhaust and rear diffuser
