VTR OR Zetec S??

lol 9 seconds to 60...just made me giggle. I had a Ford Fusion hire car the other day, that was probably around 10 seconds...simply horrific!

If we're being pedantic, it's more like 8 - 8.5 seconds...:p

I got my VTR as a first car (26k on the clock, 52 plate) and absolutely adored it - never missed a beat in the two years I had it. It will feel like a cheap car (cabled clutch and throttle etc.) but that's half the fun in my opinion - the handling in the twisties more than makes up for it.

Just because it's french doesn't mean it's going to fall apart. Buy an unmolested model (from an owner you trust hasn't been using it for laps of the local car parks) and I guarantee it will serve you well. I'd have one over a Zetec S any day of the week.

I would always suggest the Zetec S or VTR (VTR first as I am biased). VTS? Insurance group 14 for that? HELL NO!

My LCR is only group 17! Would NEVER consider that.

I would totally agree with that Quote. Yes they are french, doesn't mean it is automatically rubbish. Would try and get an unmodified one, best way.

LOL that video of that Saxo...granted it looks quite quick but it's probably a bean tin with a massive turbo on it, I'll give it 100 miles before he blows it up...moron, what's the point.

I love watching these videos of people drag racing saxo's and 106's...I just don't understand one thing...why do they feel it necessary to chew the steering wheel?!

VTRs had no problem keeping up with the 2.0 litre focus, was about the same power, so 8.9 0-60.

VTR if you want speed, Zetec S if you want a bit more comfort. I've seen both, one mate owns a VTR, another a ZS, both nice cars, but i prefer the Saxo for the speedy side of things, the ZS is a 10 0-60, gets left behind in the corners too, but that's most likely driver ability.

They're both exactly the same to 60 according to parkers, 9.9s

I've driven a 2.0 (non ST) focus and thats definitely not a quick car

ZS is a better car.

I'd buy the car that doesn't badly rust at 5 years old :)

To be honest for 1500 quid just try and find the best condition least molested version of either car. They are pretty similar cars really, just depends how they have been treated. My friend has a W plate ZS and it's got a lot of rust issues, and has already needed the headgasket replacing. However a ragged saxo could be needing a new gearbox, driveshafts etc.

Whats the point!? To make an incredibly quick car

Its a complete mess though and the owner is clearly a massive idiot. Look at all the flashing warning lights, the fact he holds the revs above the redline for ages, does 120mph on public roads with one hand on the steering wheel.

God help us all, people like that should be shot.

Pussy :p

That probably cost a fortune, why people bother I don't know. I sincerely doubt his insurance knew about the mods and churning out so much power from such a crappy chassis is just dangerous. Bet his brakes were crap too!

Anyway each to their own, we can all make a car go fast, it's whether or not you can control the speed that matters

Or... maybe it didn't cost him that much.

He told his insurance.

The chassis isn't crap.

He upgraded his brakes.

You genuinely believe a Saxo owner would tell his insurance about Turbo charging his boy racer mobile? I don't think so, not unless he was 50 years old with 20 years no claims discount, they wouldn't touch him.

I take back the comment about the Chassis, I'm sure a £12,000 from new, 15 year old car is more than capable of taking such strain through the front wheels.

Boy racers upgrade their brakes?..........

Boring arguement, lets play the odds...chances of him being a moron with petrol running through his veins and spending all of his money on his Saxo I'd say are pretty high, so i'll run with my initial thoughts

Agreed that the driver is an idiot but it still does what he/she presumably set out do do and that is go like stink. If that all the owner wanted to do then they have succeeded, if its anything else then they have failed.

I don't doubt it was expensive and I would certainly not spend that much money on a Saxo but at the end of the day its basically a very light car with a very powerful engine strapped into it, its probably handles pretty as well being a Saxo. He's probably not told his Insurers about the mods though but I hope he's upgraded the brakes.

Someone show this man the video of the VTS beating an E46 M3 at Santa Pod lol.

You don't have to spend a lot on the 1.6 16v TU to get it moving quickly. They respond very well to breathing mods. Cams and a remap would see 160ish bhp, in a 900kg car.

Someone show this man somebody who would have a Saxo over an E46 M3. Oh hang on.

You can. Get a Zetec-S moving as fast when modded.

I've known of a few guys around my age who have been interested in modding cars (its about the only thing to do around here all told) and so they are old enough and wise enough to do it properly but do it on Saxos that've had as first cars etc before stop up to better machinery (or as a stop gap between nicer cars. The sweeping generalisation that every modified Saxo is done badly is just tired and old. That's like going to America and calling all the import cars "ricers".

ZS is a better car.

And i can tell you that it's 100% incorrect. The focus is 8.9, the ZS is 9.9, the VTR keeps with the Focus, and vice versa, the Focus has more torque however, the ZS is left behind.
