look what the cat dragged in

And this is why cats should be killed on sight.

Welcome to the world of zero wildlife, no wonder the uk wildlife is in decline.

So let me get this right: you propose to solve the problem of declining British wildlife by killing more of it.

Great, makes sense to me. Let's put this man in charge and give him a hat.

Since when have domestic cats been British wildlife?

Oh yes, I only want a hat if it's a mole skin one.

Give him his hat and a slingshot and send him on his way

Go back and re-read your post - it's nonsense.

I'm not looking at it in terms of British wildlife, but more in terms of British fauna.

I think you're forgetting the myriad of other forces at play. But sure, blame cats if it helps you sleep easier.

So as of 2008 UK Feline population was approx. 7.2 million.

Are you saying, that does not have a impact on wildlife?

Of course it does, but then again we have the same proportion of other domestic pets. Are you honestly saying that things like anthropogenic influence (industry, agriculture, etc.) and impacts on phenology through global climate change are not a little more detrimental?

We have lots of things going on (take our road infrastructure and its particular impacts on habitat) yet you blame cats. Well done.

Use to see mole hills all the time in the fields near my house but not seen any for years, wonder where they have all gone.

The main problem with regards to cats is that many (if not most) owners are irresponsible and allow them to roam the neighbourhood unlike dogs/horses/rabbits etc, which results in the deaths of many cats as well as wildlife, and dangerous road accidents happening, not to mention the environmental impact of the spreading of parasitic diseases like toxoplasmosis. Alas the law is very weak in regards to responsible animal ownership.

Ah well, at least it can still have a purpose after its untimely death:

Our cats used to bring in moles, a real shame but also baffled me as to how they managed it. I can only think they sat by the molehill for hours waiting for the poor thing to surface haha
