New XJ Launch

Quite a pleasing side profile but the rear end details, especially the lights, aren't very nice at all. The overall package just seems a bit bland to be honest.

I think the old one 'mine' looks better to be brutally honest (I'm not just saying that either, I really do think so), but I still like it a lot. Also I have to say 'oh b*****' mine didn't even get to be 'current' for even a day, I don't get it until tomorrow. Well it was when I bought it I tell ya! ..although you wont see these on the road until the end of the year, the Supercharged won't show up until March 2010.

I actually think the very best looking externally, of the XJ range since it began in 1968 is the X308 XJR and XJ Sport, that ran from, 1997-2003.

This is an X308 XJ

Interesting actually, quite like the new car and though I'm not really a 'Jag Man' I have always had a soft spot for them. Glad they are getting past the X-Type which was pants and the two most recent models have actually been good cars.

The 5.0 V8 will be a stormer. A full 200kg lighter than the XFR. But that rear end is just too awkward and didnt get any better from the clay I saw about 12 months ago.

XF facelift for MY12 should see headlights much closer to the C-XF concept though, seems a Jag way to have something wrong thats fixed on the facelift (same storey for the XK) so maybe the rear end will be changed later.

Hmmm, have always been an XJ fan but can't say I like the new. The front grill is way too big and too vertical for the lines on the front, has an AM Lagonda-esk look and the back, well lets hope it looks better in the flesh.

Looking v.dated these days, but I agree :). But time to move on, its make or break time.

Front of that looks amazing, even better than the xf, but the rear is a bit Citroen C6 which isnt to my taste. If its anything like the XF it should get Jaguar some more sales.

I really like it, but I think it will all be down to colour....the rear end could look bad depending!

Quite amazing design, they had to depart from the old at some point.

Thats some good therapy there. I like the treatment of the rear and nose, all round really. Propertions, tail lights, all that. It's really quite remarkable, and a litle like the XJS when that first came out into the light, revolutionary.

I think I'm fussy usually, and I still am. The outgoing XJ was too contrived. This is a good foot put forward for Jaguar.

Like the front and side profile, but the back seems a bit plain or a bit too similar to the Bentley CGT?

I just read the Autoblog write-up, I have to say I am not so enthused myself, I really do like the interior a lot, and the front looks quite good, although not very 'Jaguar' to me, but the back, I'm really not sure about that, I think it would look better in black, but in grey ...I dunno. All in all the car has lost the 'beauty' it used to have and perhaps some of the road presence.

People say it's time to "let go" and "move on" well I say why? ...why change from a basic form and shape that looks sensationally good, and has defined how the big Jags look for over 40 years, which was a large part of the their appeal. Subtle changes to modernise and updating the interior I am all for, but a radical change of something that worked so well and looked so good, no thanks.

The S-Type needed it, the XF is great, Jaguar really hit the nail on the head there. But messing about with the already svelte beauty that was the XJ is just a no, no to me.

An awful lot of cars over the last 3 or 4 years have been made less good looking than their predecessors in my opinion.
