Hi guys,

Wonder if anyone has had any experience working for the Co Op? Are they a good company to work for? I am planning to do my Pharmacy pre-reg year with them.

Thanks

Farore

My sister works for them, for their legal department for personal injury claims.

The Co-op is a huge company ! which part are you applying to? They seem to be a "ethical" company to work for with good benefits.

I work in the food department as a Duty Manager and I'd say they're a good company to work for. Re someone's wages not being paid - this may have happened if they were a new employee? How long had he been working there?
My wages have always been paid on time since day 1, so no problems in that department!

They're a big company, and your job will be safe that's for sure. Our society is merging with the Co-operative Group on Sept 6th which we're hoping will keep us in business, as the Plymouth Co-op currently dont give a **** about us.

No job is safe no matter how big a company is, even the mighty tesco could go to the wall if banker a does x y z wrong.

I doubt a they would be taking over from our society if it wasn't financially viable. Whilst you're right, it's always possible, I really could not see it happening.

I work for food technical, manchester and am based at a depot in derbyshire.

Good money, excellent holidays and a pension thats not going to be worthless in 10 years :)

Somerfield integration will only bring better jobs to the surface!

Oh and its the co-operative nowadays ;)

Awesome responces. Seem's mostly good! I'm going into Pharmacy and theres this one year you do right after uni in a pharmacy store as you train to sit your registration exam. This year is called pre reg and you can do this at one of many pharmacy chains or shops. I'm thinking doing mine with co-op rather than Boots since I hear only bad things about Boots!

I had a job interview for them. Turned up and they said they were busy and they would ring me later. No phone call. Rung them the next day "sorry the jobs been taken".

Wait... what?

Parents were really ****** off and I probably should have been as well but I'm not a fan of confrontation so let it slide.

Glad though because they seem to get through staff quicker than I get through a roll of tissue... and I'm a geek so you can imagine I get through it quickly if you know what I'm saying :p

The manager of one of these Coop type companies (it could have been scotmid, or co-op, or one of the others) was quite happy to sell scratchcards to a parent who had made it clear he wanted to give it to his 8 year old kids.

My friend refused the sale, the manager over-ruled him.

I worked for the midlands coop for a few years. It was ok, I enjoyed working with the people I was with and was made supervisor as soon as I hit 18 but the pay was only average at best and no realy perks. I guess you don't get that much at all in retail but even the staff discount wasn't much use as it was still mroe expensive than Tesco

My girlfriend has worked for them for years, doesnt seem too bad, she was dep manager then went up to manager for 3 months but found the flack from customers moaning a bit much so went back down to dep.

oh my god, i work for the co-operative food in poole, as a store supervisor! they are quite good, been workign there far too long now though, although it is rather cushy!

I worked for the Co-Op for a while but I got the sack for having sex with a customer.

They said I'll never work in a Co-op funeral parlour again.
