I am thinking about getting water cooling in a future build however the only thing that is worrying me whether to get it or not is having a leakage, break my hardware, which voids warranty etc.

Is leakage a common thing, does it happen easily or is it a very rare thing that only happens if the user has set it up wrong?

Leakage is very rare and is almost always down to the user being stupid.

Providing the equipment isn't faulty, and you don't try to use 1/2" tubing with 3/8" barbs, then there's no real reason for it to leak.

I had a leak but as Cob said, it was down to me being stupid lol. Hadn't checked properly and an o-ring was missing off one of my barbs so it didnt make a proper seal. Meant I got coolant all down my mobo and over my graphics card. About 2 hours later after a bit of drying out and fixing the problem, all was fine!

Leaks arent common, and as long as you use some proper non conductive coolant, seem to have little effect on hardware lol

If leaks arent that much of a problem would traveling around with the system be an issue ? I move my PC about 8 times a year for 2 hour journies.

if you are going to move your PC...make sure its upright...but I have to say if you're going to be moving 8 times a year for 2hrs...then watercooling may not be the best option...as a) you will either have to make sure the case is well secure or b) you bleed out the liquid and move the PC without any watercooling parts in it...

Well Im away at Uni most of the time but brought my pc back home for the summer. I was originally planning on draining the system for the journey but may of been a little hungover and not had enough time when my lift arrived haha. Anyway, just made sure it was quite secure and had no problems with it at all. Not sure about doing it 8 times a year though haha

Safer moving it with water than with a TRUE hanging off the motherboard. If your computer leaks on its side, deal with the leak rather than just running it upright. My xspc res top leaks significantly, so I replaced the plastic stopper with an M20 to G1/4 adapter and the problem is no more.

Water cooling doesn't leak unless you do stupid things. I don't use barbs as I can imagine myself pulling them off the block, compression fittings seem a lot more secure to me

Yeah I figured I would need to drain it everytime . . . would I also need to use new coolant each time ? and how much of an issue is filling the system with coolant again/remving air ?

Think Im gonna leave it to my air coolers until Im more settled and then might tinker with water =]

No, your fine to use the same coolant again. I find it quite easy removing the air, just leave the loop running for an hour or so, every now and again coming back to it and flicking tubes that have air in them and tilting the case. It mostly just sorts itself out though

Ah cheers for that - still seems more effort than I can put up with atm.
That just made me think - do u have to turn the watercooling on independent of the system power button ? and does the pump etc need its own mains plug ?

Runs off 5v/12v from the PSU

What exactly do you mean by an 'o-ring' ?

its just a rubber ring really, fits over the thread on the barb so that it creates a better seal and is water tight. I missed one out and so it wasnt water tight lol

Do they come with the barbs when ordered? Or do you have to purchase them seperately?

They come attached, and normally stay attached. No worries there

Can use ptfe tape as well/instead of O rings, I did so obsessively until some people on here suggested I try without. Still no leaks, O rings work better than I expected them to

I had a leak on my first attempt, but it was down to my own laziness/stupidity.

I didnt assemble outside of the case first, and one of the barbs on the gpu turned out to be loose. It cost me an X-fi and a 900w psu and probably a few grey hairs from the flash and bang when the psu blew.

Learned from my mistake and checked everything from then on, I use ptfe thread tape as well as the o rings now. I also replaced the case with one that has the psu placed at the top of the case instead of at the bottom.

Wow thats good to know, I'm really confident about getting watercooling now lmao! :p

I think i may have to have some step by step help from you guys if I go through with watercooling because knowing me ill forget something and bang goes my nice new PC lol
