Yes two.

The Fire Service will do a Home Safety Check and fit some for free if you don't have one. No excuse not to and check the damn batteries.*

* Yes I do work for the Fire Service.

Thanks for the reminder as I've been meaning to change the batteries in mine...actually it's probably time to fit some new ones as the ones I have are pretty ancient.

Yeah there are at least two here. We've had them wired to the mains so no problem with batteries.

3, bottom of stairs, top of stairs, kids bedroom.

They are dirt cheep and you'd be mad not to have them.

Plus if you are that tight you don't want to fork out for one right the fire station up they'll come do a fire inspection of your house and fit you one for free.

Me too.. One thing i am paranoid about is fire.. Given my clumsy reputation I wouldn't trust myself without one.

If anything should happen (god forbid), I'd hate to live with the guilt that i could have done something about it.

Ditto, need to change the batteries on ours too. They are mains powered, but if that goes out I'd be cooked!
