My Pet Hate.

Sods law, after reading this thread this morning, my girlfriend just phoned me to say somebody had done a nice big scrape/dent on her rear bumper while she was shopping.

A witness saw it happen and left a note for her, stating that the car drove off, but have registration/details.

What is the best option for her? If she tells the police all the details, will they actually be able do anything? Or would it be a case for justice going through the insurance? (bearing in mind her excess is £400).

I very almost keyed a womans car as she opened her door into my car (whilst i was sat in it) and was going to simply walk off, i wasn't impressed but she didn't seem to care.

Looking back i wish i had keyed her car.

This seems to happen a lot in supermarket car parks; trolleys, doors being thrown open (especially by kids), drivers unable to fit into a bay without running their bumper along your doors, drivers not knowing when to stop.

I agree that it is annoying but it is just one of life's little trials; stuff happens as Donald Rumsfeld said.

I always park as far away from the doors as possible in Tesco, usually seems to work. Although occasionally I come back to the car to find someone has parked in the space next to me, despite there not being any other cars for about 100 yards :)

This annoys the hell out of me, why do they do this?

I parked on the other side of the carpark where no other cars were for a reason. :/ Supermarket trolling?

This comes up every time!

They do it because it's easier to align next to another car rather than the lines at ground level. If I'm feeling exceptionally lazy (and sometimes I am) I'll do the same.

However, I won't park so close you can't get into your car, or swing the door open into it or anything like that :)

If someone leaves their details then all well and good as it can be sorted out through insurance and if it is a non injury accident then it's what is known as non-reportable in terms of the police.

If someone clips a car then drives off it then becomes a police matter if the complaint is made as it is an offence to fail to stop after an accident and also failing to report it. It doesn't have to be an injury accident to become a police matter when the offending vehicle makes off.

In short, yes the police can do something about it as, hopefully, the witness's account and description of the incident, cars, damage etc may be able to place the offending driver at the scene.

The insurance company will probably ask if it has been reported to the police as a first question with it being a hit and run.

I had some fat old skank let her trolley run into the side of my van a few years back, put a nice dent in it. Had a word with her, and all I got was it's only an f'ing van and a torrent of abuse as she wobbled off to Mcdonalds.
I wish I had hung around to see her face when she came back to 4 flat tyres :)

My old car picked up a dent in a supermarket car park once. On TOP of the wing - how the hell did that one happen!?

Regarding stupid parking - I stopped at a relatively busy car park last night and a few bays down a new discovery was parked diagonally across 2 spaces, and the back end sticking out. I keep a pen and pad in the car so I drew a little "retard of the year" certificate and left it on his windscreen. It amused me for a little bit :)
