Hey,

Pretty much as title. My current monitor doesn't support component or composite, can anyone recommend me a TV card that would allow me to play my older consoles like the gamecube and PS2 through my monitor?

My PS3 isn't a back compatible one so that kinda sucks :p

*EDIT*

Forgot to mention, I am not sure if they can upscale well and make it look good? on a 24" widescreen.

CPU is Q6600 @ 3GHZ, 4GB of ram and a 4850ATI currently.

Buy a LCD TV ;)

I think what you are asking is next to impossible, you intend to connect the Gamecube/PS2 to the PC and use the VGA/DVI connection to the monitor

No O.o

I wanted to use a TV card to connect the console to my PC.

I used to do it with an old X800XT, and basically the software would upscale the image for me. But since I no longer have that ancient hardware :p

In other words:

PS2 S-Video -> TV CARD in PC -> PC out to monitor.

My friend is using a USB one, for recording gears of war matches, but he has problems with it (it was only a 20 pounds thing so what can you expect right?).

*EDIT* to clarify, I want to use it how you would watch TV on your desk top using a TV card, but obviously need a decentish one that can handle old PS2 stuff ok. I will get a HDTV later, but am going to start decorating soon so just want a cheap solution meanwhile to play through Resident Evil's on the PS2 and GC :p

If it's for PS2, use a PS2 emulator. The image quality is far far superior to video direct from the PS2 itself. Plus you can increase the res at which the game is rendered at and add in AA and AF.

You can play the games from the disc itself in your computers DVD drive.

After numerous attempts with an emulator just now I can't be bothered anymore. Refuses to run, which is making me extremely annoyed. Actually own the damn games on DVD and can't use them via the emulator.

So anyone got any suggestions for a card?

If you use something like MSN I'd be more than happy to talk you through getting it running. Or I could send you my own installation of it with everything already configured.

I do admit it was a bit awkward to set up, but once it's done, it's done for good.

If that's an open offer I would love it if you could send me your installation as well?

There's still a few old PS2 games I want to play through I never got around to.

A good image can be captured using Svideo from console to tv card and DScaler software. Only issue is Dscaler hasnt been updated in years and not entirly compatible with current cards. Unfortunatly it is the software with the best output.

Yeah that'd be fine. Do you use MSN? Want to add me on it?

I got the emu working in the end, it isn't perfect - but better than nothing.

It was really easy to fix after I tried lots of difficult solutions, I simply downloaded the standalone rather than the install :/

Still though it won't really help me with the gamecube, so I may still end up purchasing the card recommended :)

I am using an EasyCAP to record my PS2 on my old Core Duo laptop, does the job I ask of it. It was £13 from the popular auction site.

Edit; I wasn't able to get it to work on my Server 2008 x64 workstation, due to the driver signing requirements. As a result, I haven't been able to test upscaling, so I do not know if it will be suitable for your needs after all.
