too late to become a pilot ?

I have a friend at 25 who's recently started pilot training in Oxford. He wanted to do it for quite a long time I believe but he first went to uni to do mechanical engineering (I think) and then worked for Virgin before quitting to start his training.

From what you've said you sound very into getting into the Armed force somehow. However, I'd recommend doing something like joining the TA to find out whether army training/life agrees with you. If you can't survive several months in the TA then you aren't cut out for the Armed Forces.

One of my best mates was in the TA, and he enjoyed it, but realised it wasn't for him. Being taught to use a gun with the real possibility you may be called up as a reserve/replacement for a real military unit, and may have to use that gun to save your life is a sobering thought...

One of my university friends now is a RAF fast jet pilot flying Typhoon. Another bloke I went to air cadets with is flying helicopters in the Army. Both their facebook albums have some awesome albums, one of training in Sweden with picture taken from the backseat of a F16.

Living the dream!

The 5 hour aptitude test is what they really are looking for along with the various other stuff at Cranwell, your grades just indicate if you were able to apply yourself to something with a certain amount of discipline, scraping together some A levels years after the general education system would have provided them doesnt hold you in the same position.

After my car accident where I have metal put in my back and made me permanently unfit for the armed forces I was going through selection as for an Engineering Officer. I think you have to think about joining the RAF as a trade (possibly something other than pilot) when you're 13.

I've looked at being a pilot, still not sure if I want to be though. Well, I don't know what I want to do :p I'm predicted (and so far, have) all A*'s, but I know that grades aren't everything.

Meh, I'll think about what I want to do when I get there.

To the OP. I would rearly think long and hard about joining the infantry as the risks are huge. Sadly we have lost 8 soldiers in the last 24 hours and this does not include the many injured we hardly hear about. As for being a pilot I would say the chances are very low. I myself would love to be a pilot, although I realise in reality I would never get in. This is why Iam thinking about joining as a Weapon Technician. You get to be around the aircraft re-arming them etc as well as many other tasks. It requires specialist knowledge and so will keep you thinking which should help keep the bordem away. Maby you should look into something like this?

no GCSE's !!!!! your definitely infantry (cannon fodder) material, you have absolutely no chance of getting in the RAF as a pilot, maybe as aircrew but never a pilot

I haven't read the thread, but just going by your general attitude about serving and your spelling I can tell you're not cut out to be an Officer at the moment. Nothing personal, that's just the way it is.

You do realise weapon techs do the same thing everyday over and over?
Every job in the forces is pretty much the same thing over and over again, its the people you work with and the way of life that keeps boredom away.
a lot of people fantasise about being a pilot, failing to realise that the pilots in the forces are also doing the same thing day in day out, hovering a helicopter doing winch work would lose its novelty after say the 300th time?
Emphasise on helicopter, which is what the vast amount of pilots end up on, because they simply cant cut the fast jet course.
