Hi all,
A mate of mine is looking to ditch his Nvidia chipset in favour of an Intel board because he can't get his Go stepped quad (Q6600) past 2.8ghz. I have an Asus Maximus Formula P35 board which gets the same cpu to 3.6ghz with little fuss at all but I've been out of the game recently and would welcome some opinions on best mobo within his (strict) budget.
Looking around the OC site, I've noticed the Asus P5Q Deluxe, which currently looks favourite to me. His set up will include a single Nvidia GFX card (GTX 275) so full speed x2 crossfire lanes not essential - although I think he may change his mind at some point and move to ATI GFX in the not too distant future - he's that kind of guy!
Incidentally, I'm sure my Maxiums board has 2 x 16 lanes, whereas the P5Q Deluxe appears to run them at 8 x speed. Is there much real world difference in the event that he does pick up a pair of ATI cards at some point in the future?
What do you good folk think?
Cheers
