Hi everyone.

Some of you may remember my previous thread a couple of months ago explaining about my trip to south Africa next year to spend 12 days riding 2000Km off road along the Wild Coast in aid of charity.

This is just a bit of an update. A good friend has given his spare time to setting up a website to detail the event and associated fundraising. It's nothing overly fancy but it should do the job :)

Here it is -> www.blainonabike.com

As you'll see from the front page, I have decided to kick off the fundraising with a bang. I'll be travelling to Val Verzasca in Switzerland at the end of August to do the Verzasca dam bungee jump. At 720ft I believe it is the second highest bungee in the world but in my mind, the coolest. If you have seen the James Bond film "Goldeneye" you may remember the scene at the start of the film where he bungee jumps off a massive dam. I'm doing the very same jump

Just to give you some idea of the scale of this jump, look at the following picture. See that little black speck near the top? That's a person!

Here's a few videos of the jump too...

The aim of the jump is to raise awareness and funds. I have approached a local newspaper who are very interested in covering my progress and I plan to approach one of the national newspapers to see if they are interested. I have paid for the jump and all associated costs out of my own pocket so if you are kind enough to sponsor me, all money will go into the Enduro Africa fund.

So please spare some time to have a look around my site to find out more and if you believe in the charities this event is supporting and are able to spare a few quid I'll be very grateful. If you wish to donate you can do so by clicking the Paypal donate button on my website :)

If you have any questions please fire away.

always wanted to do the same jump! friend did it last year on his way back from australia! lol random yes but he said it was amazing!

good luck on the fund raising!

Do any of them actually know how to ride a bike ? not being disrespectful but it looks for some it's there first time out off road.

Good luck with the fund raising tho.

When I lived in Switzerland me and a few mates went there to do the jump. I didnt do it because my one fear is heights and the feeling you get when falling, I hate it :o
Good on you though, and remember to wear a tuxedo when you jump :D

Blimey, I did the Nevis jump in NZ and that was brown trousers enough for me and that was only 440 feet.
I have jumped out of a plane once and done a bungie jump once, I do not feel the need to do either again in a hurry.

There are a few amateur groups for people who have had at most a few days of off road experience. Most of the videos seem to follow these groups it would seem! There are some very experienced riders who take part but even they come off a lot. The terrain isn't easy. I have yet to be assessed but based on my experience I'll be in one of the experienced off roader groups which will take the more difficult routes and even so I've been told to expect to come off many times each day.

You know when you are in SA you won't be too far from Bloukrans River Bridge, which is the highest bungee in the world....

If it's still 216m it's no longer the highest, the Verzasca dam is 220m and the Macau Tower is a touch over 230m off the top of my head!

What's a few metres though, I'm sure ther'll be time to take a leap :D

Take some heavy weights and I'm sure you can stretch it a bit longer.....

hope your doing it dressed as bond

looks terrifying

I don't plan to but it could be an idea! to be totally honest I am terrified but at the same time I'm totally looking forward to it. It's a bloody strange feeling!

Like the website, its simple but attractive, and nice to see the latest 'feeds' on the front!

Best of luck with the bungee jump too, looks like fun :)

Would love to do that or the mongol rally.

The Mongol rally is next on the cards although it will have to wait until 2011!

This event takes place each year and the aim is to raise at least £300,000 for the nominated charities. This amount is usually exceeded by quite some margin though. They provide all the bikes and backup but we have to buy our own gear and petrol :)

Right, I've been working on a poster I can stick up in varioous places such as at work and I think it's done. However, after spending hours on something, I have kind of lost any perspective on whether it's good or not. I'd like your opinions on it. It's nothign too fancy, just something intended to grab peoples attention but if you have any suggestions for an improvement then I'd be grateful for them :0
