Will You Buy Windows 7???

Anyone know if we'll be expected to pay the £50 when we pre-order this week or whether the money will be taken at time of release?
yeah i wanna know this as well as ive got to order 3 copys 2 for 2 of my m8s who still owning me money and i don't wanna be left skint if the money comes straight off

I would guess that you would 'buy' it,but the money would only come out of the account when the disc is posted.
Sure we will find out on the 15th!

So far, after a couple of days playing around with it,I like it a lot.Its all new to me as I skipped vista completely!

Could you "Upgrade" from an OEM Copy of Vista?

EDIT: Scrap that.

Would prefer the Ultimate Edition just for Leetness ;)

Just a thought really, having been playing with the Windows 7 Release, its quite good though, very good infact...

My problem is im only looking for 2 main things/features from the new operating system, 2 which I consider very basic and very important - Blu Ray Support and FreeSat support, and these are 2 features, from which Im aware arnt going to be present in the new OS release, and 2 features im looking to make a significant use of.

Im one of those who didnt upgrade to Vista because it didnt include WinFS, though im tempted with the new OS but with these 2 "massive" ommissions, is the new os worth it??

I'll be buying it on pre-order (starting on the 15th July) - pro for £99 :D

Been using vista 64bit for just over a yr now on my system and its, 100% stable, lightning fast when you give it 8gb mem and really nice to use. So I cant see the point in upgrading the OS. I would have stayed with xp longer if you could use directx 10 with xo, basically that and the new pc build was the only reason why I upgraded to vista.

I will prob upgrade to tha latest version if:
1. games or software requires it
2. on my next build in a few yrs time

Loving the OS my favourite infact

I never thought of saying this about a Windows Machine "It just works"

Ill just get work to get it me...

Without question, I'll be ordering a copy or several, but what I really could do with knowing is are we getting the 'family licence' thing, and if so at what price?!?

I don't think you can argue that lack of Freesat support is a 'glaring ommission'. Blu-Ray support, yes, fair enough. Perhaps the release version will have support? I am using 7100 and they are up to 72XX now aren't they?

The big issue with blue ray support is the need to meet the blu-ray spec in terms of security and feed management, and the subsequent bad press this brings when everyone gets their 'DRM is evil' hat on (of which there have been several articles already spreading FUD about windows 7 just as there were about Vista in this regard).

There are also licensing costs for providing blu-ray support.

Windows 7 still using as Vista kernel but just some change in features, remove some of it but nothing else as new. So I keep Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 just until until next Windows OS due by 2011/2012

I dont see any difference between W7 and Vista -- i would say W7 still called as "Vista R2" or "should-be Vista SP2" or "Vista 2nd Edition" but MS decided to called as Windows 7. So it up to you to buy and see if it help with your hardware support and see any difference,etc.. then post this page - i wont waste some money between 2007 to 2009 that too short.

It's a lot more smaller things that make up the overall product that is 7. DX11 for starters so if you're a gamer then you won't get DX11 on Vista. Better GPU utilisation in the OS itself, better memory management too so both combined make 7 feel smoother and faster.
