I am about to bite the bullet order a new tv. My problem is whether to pay an extra £350 for a 50" G10 or go for a PS3000 (both with 5 yr warranties).

Both TVs seem t have good followings at AV forums but I cant decide.

As far as I can tell, the LG has better calibration controls but the G10 has better blacks.

The TV will be used for gaming, SD and HD.

Anyone have either of them or any suggestions?

Panny as you know is top quality.... LG are better than they were and quite good on 1080p ....but not so good on SD

watch out for poor blacks, not good news but not a disaster......have a really good web review search on this LG Plasma before deciding

I believe the LG still has IR problems, which might be an issue if you are going to game on it a bit.

Isn't the PS3000 only 720p? I thought the normal choice is LG PS8000 or G10?

Personally would choose the Panasonic, sounds silly but just trust them when it comes to Plasmas, they know what they are doing :)

I changed from a Panasonic TH37-PX80 to the PS3000, and I'm impressed by the quality of the LG. The blacks are not quite as good as the panasonic, but still impressive. The calibration controls are much better, and if you hunt about there is a way to change the settings on the LG to allow playback of Divx via usb.

Cant say i've had any issues with IR, but then I don't use it for gaming.

OK,

so i went out yesterday with the Earth Blu Ray and spent about 4 hours in some high street stores playing with the two TVs.

I had a chance to fiddle with the settings of both TVs, getting rid of "retina-burn" vivid and some of the other poor settings. I took a friend along who has about 50 different flat panels as he runs a hotel.

The problem with the G10 is that it has almost no picture settings; contrast and a couple of others and that is it. The picture it does produce is fantastic though.

The PS3000 is a full 1080p set with the same panel as the PS8000. It is missing THX mode and good speakers. Luckily, there was a PS8000 sitting below the PS3000 in the shop, so we turned that onto its THX preset after we had fiddled with thePS3000 to see what out results were like.

I was really impressed with the PS3000. I am still in the same position as I was before. The G10 is better, but not £400 better. I also have a feeling that the PS3000 could be cailibrated to a knat's whisker of the G10.

I am swaying towards the PS3000 simply because I could change it again in 2-3 years, If i got the G10 I would need to stick it out a bit longer because of the investment made.

I do have one question- the images on the G10 seemed to pop out a bit better than the PS3000. Is that because of black levels or something else?

i would seriously consider the LG.... just been reading up on it....dont forget that at home, you'd get used to the LG, it will look better with time..plus it's cheap.....but i worry about its reliability...

the best plasma is Pioneer... but look at the price

good blacks mean, more ``punch``..the image will look more alive and 3D...basically, you're after high contrast...the PANNY will be better for this.............because after PIONEER, PANNY are the second best in the world.... well, they were 3 years ago when i was last researching.

plasma tv is now miles cheaper than back then..... a 42'' plasma used to cost over 2000 quid and it wasn't even 1080p
