Curse you Steam and your persistence

Just tried to play Empire Toal War after having a break for a few weeks as I recently got Arma 2. Went to launch the game and it would freeze. I went into the event viewer and it looks like a dll is corrupted or missing or something.

This is the 3rd time ive had to re-install Empire due to launch errors. I resent Steam for forcing you to install it before you can play this game. I have no need for it and all it has caused me is grief. I dont have issues with any other games.

Anybody else having issues with Steam, or just think its the biggest pile of uselessness ever invented?

I always want a physical copy of my games in case I get a new computer (or Steam go bust!). If I wanted friends groups etc I could just use something like the old skool Gamespy. If I wanted Steam I would have downloaded it out of my own free will!

Sorry for the ramble but it will give you something to read about on a Sunday afternoon.

eh?

How is it Steam's fault you have to install EmpireTW? It's not like without steam it would run off the DVD

In fact, i'm failing to see what is steam's fault about any of that, rather than the notoriously buggy E:TW.

can you play and install empire total war fine without a internet connection, because mines going to be down for a while,im having to do this at a freinds house

can you post the event viewer log output?

I highly doubt it's a steam issue.. myself and many others can play Empire TW via Steam without issue - I have 98 steam games, and have never had an issue with any of them.

Post the logs and we'll be able to help resolve your problem :)

ok so maybe i went a bit over the top, but its still annoying and bizarre that to play this game you HAVE to install and run steam. Will13 you can play this ofline, just put steam into offline mode.

STEAM is a more than capable match making client and provides DRM the publisher are happy with.

For me, STEAM is currently the best at what it does with Impulse catching up very quickly.

yes i appreciate that but i dont want a match making client! I dont want to fiddle around with it i just want to play the game from the dvd. I appreciate that lots of people like steam its just that trhey shouldnt force it upon you it should be a choice.

ok,how do i put it in offline mode when i cant get online with it?.thanks

go to file and click go offline. If youre offline already then it should be ok. That way you can play your games through steam without needing an internet connection AFAIK

There's been an empire update that seems to introduce this error since you last played - have you rebooted your machine since re-installing the game?

lol tryed installing steam now and well it would let me do anything, dos it needs a internet connection for the first time or??
