Tales of Vesperia

So I'm pretty much at the end of the game now, or at least on the home stretch. Current play time is 30hrs, and I haven't really deviated from the main storyline much. I need to go back and revisit areas to gather up items that I couldn't get earlier (Metroid-style) and also level up a bit more.

I have to say, this has definitely been my favourite Tales game, just nudging Symphonia off the top spot. The story, art, direction, even the voices... everything works so well and it's genuinely a treat to play through.

Aye it really is an enjoyable game. I find myself unable to put it down once its on. I'm about 35 hours into it already and thats without really going out of my way for sidequests and things (although I have been travelling to collect parts for synthesis.)

I'm level 40-41 and I'm not far gone after getting the second mode of transport ;) I'm gonna take a break and go after all those gigantic monsters that I left earlier in the game.
 
Never really got into these sort of games since final fantasy 7 , but enjoying this so far .
Im up against the first egg bear and im finding him pretty difficult any tips would be welcome :(
You guessed it i suck at games like this :D
 
Theres not a lot you can do tactically wise at this part of the game. The only reason you'd be dieing here is if your behind on a few levels. I'd recommend gaining a level or 2 and it should get much easier.

Have Estelle stay back and just heal, while Yuri, Karol and Repede hammer the thing to death.
 
Beat him and got the mission done , yeah i was a few levels behind and making really good progress now ;)
Now i have met up with some other chick and facing some big stone monster in the ruins . :D

So I wondered when Spirits were going to show up in this game, seeing as they've been in the other Tales games I've played. It seems I'm not as close to the end as I thought I was - I still have a little bit of exploring to do. Good!

Is there away of controlling your players manually or is the only option you get at the start ?
Some of the bosses are difficult but you get a sense of satisfaction when you beat them thats for sure :D
 
You mean Estelle/Karol/Repede/etc?

You can assign Arte's to the right-stick for shortcut purposes, but you can't really do much with them while you're controlling Yuri. Once you synthesize a certain item you're able to control who you want in battles, but again you'll only be controlling the 1 person.
 
Yep, that's how I did it. I never had to worry about tactics from that point on because I was levelled up correctly.

I'm literally right at the end now. I was pleasantly surprised how much more stuff there was to do after what I assumed was going to be the final battle. I twigged when it was a bit too easy, though.
 
OK I havent been able to play this for awhile but I'm suddenly stuck on a boss.

I'm fighting captain Schwann (;)) and he's basically kicking my ***. I never realised how much I rely on Estelle in fights but I'm struggling taking care of the party. From reading on the internet this fight is supposed to be quite easy! :eek: Guess I'm missing something basic that I havent been aware of all game.

I'm level 42 and all my equipment is upto date. I've tried fighting him with different party members, but he just seems to kill everyone.

The nearest I've got is with a party of Yuri, Rita, Karol and Judith. I've put the AI on use items freely, I've tried changing them to be careful of their HP (50% and 75%). But all they do is use Apple Gels (30% HP items) and they're basically killed afterward.

I've got to the part when he uses his big attack and goes weak, but by that time I'm normally just 1 character alive and out of life revival items and when I attack he just breaks through and blasts me in a combo of about 800hp damage.

Am I missing something? Any suggestions? :)
 
I have no problem with that battle at all. I can't remember what level I was though so it might be a case of grinding a bit more.

I left tactics on normal, and if health started to drop I'd get Karol to do 'Nice Aid Smash'. I also stop them from using items with LB and tell them what to use. Most fights are all about using Yuri to a) rack up combos and b) knock enemies down with artes so that the others have time to cast spells.

I am going to download it to see what it looks like compared to 360 version on my monitor .
Im not sure what there going to put in extra for the ps3 version ,but the 360 has over 80 hours play at least .
So its certainly value for money even if they dont add a lot :)

you need to set Karol in the battle strategy page to heal and use 75% of TP, also set him to keep distance or the option relating to circumstance, make sure no other character apart from your main is set to use OL, he will then run round healing all your characters and at Level 42 you should have walked all over the guy, I hammered him at lvl 37, turn all ritas artes off apart from the fireball

Just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of how much of the game I have left? Purely as I like to get as near to the end as possible to make sure I have collected as much as possible through the main story then go off exploring and doing all the side stuff. At the moment I've just left Nordapolica after the Belius encounter... that near the end or miles away?
