whats your resting heart rate?

Your resting heart rate should be taken when you first wake up in the morning and you haven't got out of bed yet.

Yay it makes my previous calculation correct :p, though I think it will be a bit depressing how much its gone up since then :o. On the plus side I can lift a lot more :D.
Edit: Currently 75bpm sat at my computer though I just ate a lot of food if that makes a difference =/, think I'll properly check what it is in the morning.

Taken lying down, figured that'd make it lowest bar having just woken up.

Frankly, I am suprised. I'm not super-fit by any means but am certainly not overweight and most the afternoon have just been cycling round, throwing balls and climbing stuff with no problems. I do 50 pull-ups every few days and was doing the 100 push-up challenge in sport arena (about 30-something consecutive), as well as some cycling etc (not far though I guess).

I think the slower your heart beat per minute at rest, the healthier your heart are.

I exercise a lot and mine's around 50. Gf's at 46

Dunno how others have done it, but probably not like me :p

I put a mic on my chest and recorded for a while, then cut down a minutes worth and counted. I'd probably loose count otherwise and then that annoyance would push it up further!

Mid 40's  Last year the Ambulance woman checked it 3 times just to make sure. :p
I'm even fitter than I was last year though so I'd hope for a better recovery rate. :)

Define 'sustainable'. :) The 220-age is roughly peak heat rate, not your sustainable heart rate for exercise.

If I'm running then I'm aiming for an HR of around 155-165, but I know it can peak at 195 if I'm sprinting.

Everyone is different though, my resting heart rate is about 55-60, im 17 stone and work out 4 or 5 times a week, my max heart rate is 150 going flat out sprinting, never goes more than 2 or 3 more than that, while my wife's working out at a lower level to me, her heart is sitting around 170-180 (she's 39, im 36).

Mine is 65bpm, I've just started running and aim to get it around 60, no idea how hard that might be to do but it's a goal! Peak heart rate is 193 but haven't properly confirmed that by doing the run about until you almost collapse test, just what the watch says when I come back from a run.

How does max heart rate relate to fitness?

My resting heart rate was about 56ish last time I measured it but it can go up to 190 when cycling hard although I can sustain that for 30 mins or more.

I've heard that a higher max heart rate and lower resting heart rate are both good things. I read an article a few days ago on it but forget the specifics.
