Hi

Whats the general rule on this? I read after 2001 was it, all diesel cars require a Catalytic Converter to be fitted/present to pass an MOT?

Or am I wrong? Are cars able to pass MOT's without? Or is it to the testers discretion?

Thanks.

Depends entirely on the tester tbh. My cars due its MOT and its been decatted and in no way legal :p

All depends on who you know ;)

Might be the same for Diesels...I assumed it was the same for all cars.

Diesel is smoke tested rather than a Emissions test for a Petrol.

Mind you I've never paid to have a car MOT'd before...until Thursday :o

diesels are smoke tested only so the cat isn't required.

mines an 02 and is fine decatted.

infact since the remap its emissions and smoke have both practically halved.

remember kids, remaps are green, yo :p

Are you friendly with the tester to pass the MOT ok?

I'm just hoping Evans Halshaw are cool with the decat

I have a tuning box :p

And on a cold start it really does churn out a lot of smoke I guess its normal? :p

Trying to burn a hole in the OZONE layer with your bean can exhaust and decat? You do realise it'll probably sound like a Perkins Tractor?

So what? I didn't need you to comment on how it'd sound.

Just here for simple Q&A time :)

whack the box off and get some injector cleaner etc in there a week before (if you don't use it anyway). will help if its smokey. mine runs very cleanly and hardly churns any out so im always OK, however the rents 1.9TD is quite smokey so injector cleaner/italian tune up is needed prior to the test.

Crikey, I only have until Thursday for the MOT.

If I leave the wiring loom connected for the tuning box(it's only like a splitter wire that the box taps in to). But remove the box, will the car still start?

I can't remove the wiring because of where GM/Isuzu put the connecter. it's inaccessible without ramps and a lot of patience.

doesnt it just clip into your fuel rail like most?

usually just unclip it both ends and remove, then just plug the standard loom back into the fuel rail again...

did you not fit it yourself? got a pic at hand?

hell, if its not that smokey just leave it on, just make sure you get some injector cleaner in there.

No the last owner of the box fitted it on a Motorway services carpark, jacked my car up and laid on his back under my car.

Rather him than me.

basically the connection to the actual box you can see stays where it is. the end of that wire will split into two cables/ends. its these two you want to disconnect. and then simply plug the remaining cable back into the fuel rail. all the box did was sit inbetween them...

however... as you didn't fit it i would probably just leave it alone :) chuck some injector cleaner in and give it a good italian tune up, should be fine :)
