Hi All,

been on a well known auction site, yes I know...
but anyway, Picked up a bargin (I thought) of a 4870x2 for £191
was opened but not used as it never fit his inside his case.

anyway, received it this morning and its a 4850x2!!? very gutted.
I've had my heart set on the 4870x2 but not heard or seen any reviews on this other one, the seller said I can return for full refund and he is very sorry.

but just a quick question? he did say make a offer for this one, but is it worth it? or should I just return and put the money towards the 4870x2?

I read some comments that it overheats a lot?
and without a RMA I don't think its worth the risk...

any advice?

I'll be running a 850w PSU on it.

so ask for £50 back on it? and its still a good card?

it seems pretty big and nice, but read some reviews on its exhaust system... can overheat? plus its only GDDR3...

though seemed to handle well on some benchmark tests though.
worth asking for £140? and then use it till the Direct 11x made a arrival?

worried if buying it though and it goes wrong... I can't RMA though?
he can't remember where he bought it from... :(

He is playing you for a fool, get a full refund.

he's got 100% feedback, and past items seem legit enough.
I think its a genuine mistake, but if the card would last me awhile would it not be worth getting it at a lower price? around £140? maybe less...

from what I can see its never been used, everything there and sealed.
except the card, which he said didn't fit...

if it didn't fit, why didn't he just return it to where he bought it from?

he left it for 3 months, and couldn't find the receipt...
I've asked what price he wants, he check and linked me the cheapest online is £179, so if its around £120 then might be worth it?

I'm not defending him, its a stupid mistake...
I just don't want the hassle and loosing £8+ on postage to send it back, and then wait for more time before money is back in account.

remember... I'd still have to fork out another £100+ on the 4870x2 - on overclockers its - £242.98 inc VAT (and out of stock)

which is why I looked auction site.

i would keep the card, its good enough to carry you for some time, its not worth shelling out big bucks for a 4870x2, especially with new 40nm DirectX 11 cards on the way.

that's what I was thinking,
but never even looked at the card till now and not sure what it was like.

worried in case it goes wrong, but worth it if its cheap enough till Direct 11x is announced and could always sell again...

my old ATI 1900xtx only just went after having it since came out must be 5 years? maybe... (cost me £500+ back then!)

High resolutions 1920 and 2560 are red and purple in the following charts...

Link to the 4890 OC review that contains much more results for a 2Gb 4850X2...

he come back with £135... and yes its the 2GB model GDDR3 one, in the blue box.

so refunding me £65 on it, think its worth a punt...
edit:

Thanks for those graphs Timko!
still a good card for the price, though the 4890 does look nice! OC though.

this should tie me over till dx11
