Presently it is discounted. If you paid full price then you would be paying for the OS.

I imagine the £50 just about covers the support costs.

If you consider that some AV companies charge £20-£30 a year for their product, then £50 for 5-8 years of updates, services packs and support is a bargain. Hence the reason I consider the OS to be free.

I think he means it as normally that much of the cost would be for such things. The support you expect when you buy a full price OS, and he sees the "saving" from pre-ordering as the deduction off the price of the OS itself?

I agree though, a weird way to look at it.

I see it as a cheap OS. Hell it's cheaper than a Vista Upgrade disc, or XP OEM. Bargain of the century, but I opt for Pro anyway. Pre-ordered about 2.30AM this morning. Already talked a friend into ordering a copy for him and his GF. Probably talk my brother into it too later.

You can't beat that £45 tag for a FULL OS.

Announcement up on the site rather than just a failure error.

Seems you can't access the site, windows 7 pre-order etc etc.

Sorry, but I have to laugh at the "omg, sold out" comments.

In the last minute, at least 3 of the stores listed on the official partners page still have the option to buy. Why the panic?

Its not about stock as such. Each store will have been given a certain number of pre-orders they can take. When that figure is reached, the option to "buy" will simply be removed. Thats how its always been with pre-orders. Especially with the larger e-tailors.

What these numbers are, no one really knows. In the other thread, someone metioned that one particular store only had 150 to sell. For an offer that lasts over a week, I find that very hard to believe.

In saying that, I suspect that a large chunk will be sold by the end of today. :)

Has there ever been as many Genuine retail copies of Windows sold in such a short space of time ?? :D

Sometimes, you have to give credit. I think Microsoft have got this spot on.

Well I've preordered mine from a website.

At work we're being upgraded to MS Office 2007 this week and i just got an email saying I am now eligible to buy Office 2007 Enterprise direct from Microsoft for £8.95, or £17.95 with media. May as well for that price.

It is truly quite a limited edition. The German and French versions sold literally in minutes and there has been no resupply! The major places that had those versions for pre-order are now selling for example HP for 120€ when the limited pre-order price was 50€. Better safe than sorry really especially when we don't know how much supply is left but do know that several other countries (including Japan, where 17 retailers sold out the whole batch of 30,000 copies in 1.5 days).

Most US retailers have sold out, including some of the big ones. Also notice that people from all over EU will be pre-ordering UK versions because a) a lot of people prefer UK version over localized and b) because only three countries in EU were given a pre-order of their own.

So if you want yours for the pre-order price, I wouldn't wait much longer.
