I'm after a new Headset to replace my now rather broken Fatality's, what I need is basicaly a decent pair of headphones with a Mic stuck on, I would prefer higher quality headphones and a crummy mic than the opposite.

They will be used for the obviouse VOIP and also gaming when speakers arn't an option, also music (Electro and EBM so decent bass would be good)

I'm currently interested in the Sennheiser PC350 if anyone has any comments on them.

My budget is about £100 with a top mark of about £120.

Quite a few people were complaining that the PC350s were a little lacking for sound quality, particularly in the bass department.

A few people on head-fi are reporting significant improvements from a relatively simple mod: See here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/modding-sennheiser-pc350-headset-406187/index3.html

I've heard of that mod before, though it seems a bit risky to base a purchase on such a haphazard mod.

I've found the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s for £110, i'm sure you could find a mic for a couple quid somewhere or you could just taking one off an existing headset if you don't want to spend anything should be fine.

I had the PC350s for a year until the cable went faulty. Returned them to OC and now they don't stock them so I got a refund :(

I'm going to buy them again, can't fault them at all unless they break.

I was not impressed with the bass on those headphones using onboard sound so tried out the bass mod on them. All that happened was the bass was still as bad but now a lot more "boomy"

However I have recently installed an Asus Xonar D2 and the diference is incredible, bass is now strong possibly on the overpowering side (the cups literally vibrate noticably with the sound turned up).

My conclusion is don't use good quality headphones with onboard sound, I'd expect they would sound good with a Xonar D2 even without the dodgy bass mod.
