*** Mini 'strongman' meet - 8th August ***

This sounds interesting. I would love to be able to participate in this. I love watching strongmen contests on TV.. but i seriously doubt that I could physically do it.
This maybe a bit of a personal question but how big are you guys (in weight)?

nothing wrong with turning up and giving it a go fella, its more about fun than competition :)

I'm going to the novice strongman comp this weekend, going to see how it pans out over the day and what sort of level i need to be, with the idea of entering next year! Should be interesting!

haha that 45kg keg nearly weighs the same as me!! lol
But I will seriously look into coming to this.. need to check when my weekend trip to berlin is frist though when i get home.

This is hardly a proper strongman competition, the stuff we are lifting isnt very heavy :)

When it comes to power and strength, the smaller guys are the most impressive! So don't worry about being light :p

As Morba alluded to, it's power to weight ratio which tends to do it. I weigh pretty much 100kg - but I can assure you I'm not going to find this stuff easy!

Yeh, we were shocked the other week when one of the smaller guys in our gym (although VERY lean) came and had a go. He was REALLY good at the car pulling. Shocked us all.

Just come for a bit of fun mate :)

Come on people - roll up and come along! This is not a "better than you/me" type of thing, this is a competition against yourself and challenging yourself. :)

The earlier we can start the better to be honest as the fields get fairly busy in the afternoon with team practises.

Between 10 and 11 would be a great time to get things moving.

Well said. Just pulling the van a distance is an achievement. Its a nice chance to train in a different way as well.

Absolutely - although I may be strong in the gym, being strong in these sort of events is COMPLETELY different. I'm going there with my ego left at home as this is going to be totally new to me, I haven't got the technique or the knowledge bar what i've seen on TV and the occasional attempts I've done on some of these.

Yup. One thing I advise - wear a belt for the keg clean and press. Its annoying as I know a few of you are like me and don't like using a belt, but for this I absolutely recommend it.

The shingle inside the keg moves around when you clean it up and its easy to step awkwardly.

We've got a belt so you don't need to bring one etc
