for high performance Gaming:-

1.......to overclock the CPU or Card.....my guess is it's the card?
2.......to overclock the whole lot, including MOBO/RAM

this would refer to a GTX 295..(or whatever is top end next year)......AMD 965.......DDR3.... be quiet 750W etc etc.

i.e does this spec really need overclocking...i mean, i dont really mind if it does :D

i'm ok about the hardware... but i'm shaky over overclocking.... i dont know anything much about it yet....it's a strange science to me

thanks....

If you get a spec like that you probably wouldnt need to overclock... but hey, do it anyway haha

If your overclocking your CPU then that will have an effect on your RAM and such as well as their speed is calculated using the fsb, pretty much the only thing it doesnt change (which will alter gaming performance) is the GPU. I would start by overclocking the CPU, can get some very good overclocks and the gains are well worth it.

As for overclocking your GPU, I would do it as a last resort, but you will probably only gain 1 or 2 fps. The benefits of overclocking the GPU are quite small (normally because they dont overclock that much) with the exception being the Radeon 4890. That thing overclocks loads and will show some pretty good results! Thats the only graphics card I would personally bother overclocking lol

very interesting and i've noticed this before... but i thought that this was due to no overclock on the CPU.......but it isn't, the card wont overclock that much and 5 to 10 fps isn't worth the hassle with the additional heat problems. ...thanks!

because i dont want to overclock my next card...that's what i'm worried about....right, i'm going to remove all overclocking on my present pc...and wait till my new rig is built before OC again................ if OC a GTX 295 only gives me say 12 extra frames (1080P)....when i've already got 120.....then i'm not interested.

No need to remove your current overclocks. As long as its working fine you might as well leave them! You can still overclock your graphics, and if you already have fair play, it just wont show as significant results as overclocking your CPU will

ok i'll leave it.............it works fine anyway.....i'm bored of my pc, i want to build something really special next time...mine is too outdated nowadays

this forum is great..... i've learnt so much in the last month

Same, since joining here my PC has changed completely, not a single part left the same apart from one of my hard drives haha. I went for somthing special too and modded water cooling into a quite cramped mid tower cases and am now collecting parts for a second loop haha, wanting to do somthing special gets expensive :p

glad your liking it here though. Put up a build log if you do get a new system together :)

oh yea you can count on it, you'll get fed up with me posting in all the time :D, i'm starting with the ``be quiet 750 W and then the LIAN LI PC-A71-A``......blu-ray, SATA and everything else will follow in drips and drabs....................i might mod the case interior too, that huge case will be half empty though, i'm only fitting BLU RAY and one huge hard drive...like i have now..... i want to keep it powerful, reliable and simple.............my existing gaming rig will be moved to here upstairs and used for the web only.....downstairs is off-line and only put on line when i play with my friends..on FEAR MP, which is maybe twice a week.

i want to replace the case's interior paneling with maybe 6mm perspex...and gut and remove all the paneling not required, so i have maximum airflow; plus it'll look neater

but i'll need lots of help overclocking..... but not now cause i'll forget by next july :D

thanks
