Have you ever had 'flu?

Once, when I was at college, would have been about 17.

Felt rough for a few days then bam, in bed for 10 days before I could physically move.
I've never felt so bad physically in my life.

Had almost three weeks off college.

I had it once when I was younger and remember being ridiculously ill, so ill in fact one of my teachers came to visit me at home!

Have had it once again in my teens and was off school for almost two weeks.

Absolutely awful, can't move because you feel so ill.

I got hit with it badly over Easter 2008.

Not pleasant.

Felt like I had been run over, seriously hot fever and crazy shivers, no real food for 5 or 6 days, oh and I had really bad diarrhoea (as in 8 times+ a day for the duration).

The worst part someone touched on above, waking up in the middle night so wet through with sweat it was like someone had poured a bucket of water over you, what with the runs as well - dehydration was on the cards.

Lost some serious weight and it took sbout a month to get back to normal.

Would not wish it on anyone. Gives me the shivers thinking about it!

At the moment I seem to have a cold (or curly tale syndrome.....who knows?), but it's nothing in comparison.

yup had it once, was delirious one night and spent half the night rolling around my bed taking cover under the sheet as i thought i was in WW2 :o

Take note, when you have the flu don't play COD2 before you go to sleep

I had it over Christmas 2008. I'd been feeling fine, then woke up at 5am one day with full blown symptoms :(. I've never experienced such a sudden onset of anything, it really freaked me out. I got worse over the first few days and on the 24th I couldn't move at all. I somehow made it to the sofa and turned on the tv, but after that it was too much effort to even turn over the channel.
I remember lying there barely conscious for hours trying to figure out how to call my mum and ask her to pick me up as I was supposed to drive over that afternoon. I spent the rest of christmas eve and all of christmas day passed out on a recliner in my parents living room.

I wasn't fully recovered until January, it was a really horrible experience.

EDIT: I don't believe that someone with the worst flu symptoms could muster up the energy to play a computer game.

nah it was in the early stages, kicked in during the night.

The next morning i woke up tangled up in sheets face down, took me about an hour to get the energy just to roll over and sit up

i honestly don't know, but last year i had my worst cold ever and i couldn't get out of bed for 2 days, high fever, cold sweats, no appetite, it might have been but probably not, i like to think (read hope) i'm quite resilient to flu

Just the once, it was absolutely horrible and I hope I never have it again it just kills you for days on end.

Once. Was in bed for one day, no energy at all, couldn't stand up etc and another day recovering where I was able to watch TV and drink tea. Wasn't able to eat either day. Was still a bit ropey, but functional the day after iirc.

Apparantly, according to a doctor on TV years ago, if you have cold, you could escape in an emergency, if you have flu, you wouldn't be able to.

That's not flu. If it was, you wouldn't have the energy to toss and turn, nor would you be able to even think about playing cod2.

Full on for about 10 days when i was 14-15. Hot cold Fever swings. Hallucinating, i thought my duvet was trying to eat me - trying to play a computer game and freaking out so badly that i smashed the disks apart .. Was horrid.

They are the only 2 memories i have of the whole time. I don't remember seeing a doctor or taking a prescription either. Not a nice experience tho

I get the flu about once every 3 years.

First time I got it I was in bed for a week and a half solid.

My hallucinations involved thinking i was riding a turtle on the jet stream in finding nemo, and also trying to convince Doctor Bashir from star trek DS9 to cure of me the Flu... even though he tried to tell me he was a fictional character.

Was also coughing up blood and excreting blood during that time... dark days.

Got flu again at Uni, this time a week in bed but not as bad as the first time.

Then I got one of those 48 hour flus, where you're completely dead for 2 days, then much better after... funny thing was, I actually wished I'd be ill, because I wanted to get out of going to this thing I had to go to... god really delivered on that part!

Right so as soon as flu strikes you are unable to move? You're just like those people at work that say 'clearly you didn't have flu as you were only off for four days and you're not dead'. Nggg .

Once when i was about 20. I was having hot and cold sweats for days and didn't have the energy to get up. My temp was around 40 Degrees

I felt like i was on the verge of death :(

Once, awfull waking up and the bed is soaking wet from the sweat.
Someone said to me once that if you looked out the window and saw a £50 note, if you had flu you wouldn't even think about going and picking it up.

Im currently suffering from flu (most likely Swine) First day/day and a half was horrible but after that it isnt so bad. We are all different.

I have to lol at this. You certainly wouldn't be making posts on a forum if you have influenza right now. You'd be in your bed, too weak to even lift up a fifty pound note if someone dropped it on the floor next to you. Sounds like you've got a bad cold to me and that's all you've had before. Real flu is surprisingly rare and particularly nasty.
