3.0 v6 turbo diesel vectra ?

I test drove a 3.0 V6 Diesel. I thought it was a dull heavy disappointing drive with the handling capabilities of a skip.

I'm a Vxl fan but this was possibly the most boring one I have driven apart from the Aguila I had on test. (My ex's family owned a Vxl dealership so I got to test drive whatever they had on the forecourt at the time)

Doesn't the x5 have a really crap interior?

I've not been in a new X5 but the interior quality in the previous model was very good indeed. Whilst BMW quality lately suggests the current model is perhaps not quite as good it won't be hugely different.

addding closure to the thread, he bought this;

Ah decent car from a ride pov, it'll rust to nothing by 2015 but should be good for a while. Possibly what i'd have bought too. Engine is a pretty good match for the E-class.

better than vauxhalls of similar price!

i had a drive of it, and must say i am impressed by the engine (for a diesel)

As you say mate that's a good thing if anything, they are good reliable cars with class leading ride quality and interior, not surprising taxi drivers use them. Rust problems aside that is, but i am sure taxi drivers know plenty of back street garages to get blowovers done on the rust :p

Is saw one of these the other day with rust holes over both the left wheel arches :o ...the other side was probably the same, I couldn't see it though so can't say for sure.

If this one is ok though, good choice.

Not surprising mate, no idea what to do about my s-class :/ Think you did the right thing getting an ally jag!

Maybe so, although they do suffer some surface corrosion still around the boot-lid shut-lines and the bonnet and where the plastic mud-flaps meet the wheel arches. Nothing like you see on the Mercs though, well aluminium doesn't rust as such anyway, but you can certainly get some corrosion on the surface.

Is your S suffering rust problems aswell then ?

Yeah im being picky at the moment, slightly bubbling round the 2 front arches and on the boot lid. Only going to be worse though :/

Thats the problem mate,

Choices boil down to:

A8 - good car, like it, looks modern, maybe a bit clinical, doesnt stir much emotion
Newer W220 - my favourite luxury car with IMO the best ride, but i would probably be left wondering why i didnt just patch up my existing one!
Jaguar XJ - good car, like it, ally body, nice styling
BMW 7-series E65 - rides like a BMW (ie, badly), horrible interior, dont like it
Lexus LS - its a toyota with toyota switches, nasty

Which boils down to the fact that i might as well just get the W220 sorted again. As really there isnt anything better on the market, just things that are different which will cost me a shed load to sidestep to :)

Would be nice to see an era where Mercedes started to over-engineer cars again. I think at some point in the 90's the phrase 'that'll do' has been introduced into their vocabulary and they haven't looked back since.
