After doing some research i was about to purchase a gtx 260 or 275 to upgrade from my current 9400gt. Although i know upgrading from this card is going to make a huge difference, I have just recentley read that NVIDIA might be releasing a new set of cards GT206 and GT212 using GDDR5.

Do you think these cards will be on the horizon soon or would this be something that is likely to be released in 6 months time+?

I do need a new gpu obviously but do you think it is worth the wait?

i would buy a mid range card maybe a GTX260 HD4850 or 4870. Since DX11 cards will be coming out at some point soon.

There reasonably cheap and give you great performance for the wait.

There's always something else around the corner. I would just get the GTX 260 now for the price. If a card comes out in october that is faster, it will probably cost about £250 for the first 2-3 months. How much were GTX 260s again at launch?

Best value at the moment for around £100 is a 48701GB. It's faster than a GTX260 and cheaper.

Going from the lower model numbers and the GT name instead of GTX, these seem to be lower end cards (GDDR5 is cheaper than GDDR3 even though its faster). I could be wrong though. The 300 series will be the next gen.

IIRC, the GT212 = GTX280 with GDDR5 and 40nm, GT206 = GTX260 with GDDR5 and 40nm.

I think the GT212 and GT206 information is out of date, this slide...

Is from back in November 2008, it does not show the GTX260 55nm, the GTX275 or the GTX285. Nvidia have had several setbacks with their 40nm parts, and have very recently released 2 OEM only 40nm parts with DX10.1 support, but these are sub mainstream parts (16 and 48 shaders respecivly IIRK).
