I moved to Germany on 19th December 1999, started a new job and then had to come home on my second day, then spent the whole of Christmas in my hotel bed, not a very nice time! I could barely walk but needed some food on Christmas day so I went next door to Burger King, strangest Christmas dinner ever. 
All I can remember is my hotel bed being soaked with sweat, it was horrible.

I started off by claiming I was sick during a lesson I hated at school (Food technology, and woe betide anyone who dared to call it cookery in front of the teacher), went to the matron's office where I actually started feeling sick. I promptly threw up everywhere, got sent home, where I proceeded to spend the next 2 weeks with high fever, throwing up, aches, pains and hullucinations. It was most un-fun. I've never had anything like it since.

Nope. Never so much as had a cold or any ailment bar physical injuries. Though I've had a bit of a sore throat and a bit of a cough, but noting more than 24-48hrs worth.
I got soaked in London over the weekend, everyone refused to catch a taxi so we walked back. On the monday my jaw started the ache & a choking cough if you try to speak.
By Tuesday i called in sick as i only got 3 hours sleep with choking/(REALLY BAD)wheezing when i lay down. By Wednesday the cough started to go and runny nose kicked in big time....also knee caps started to ache. Today the runny noise has almost gone but cough is still around (wheezing not nearly has bad though) but my knee's are well bad ...can hardly walk on them. I cant really bend them and im walking as if on stilts.
Just a bad cough/cold, i get one once a year etc but from what i understand Swine Flew would be more debilitating like flew

Remeber having it a few years back while I was at uni. Went to work on Sunday (part time) feeling a bit off and remember leaving at 2 and feeling like I could barely walk, which was reat when it took me about 45 minuntes worth of bus rides and walking to get home. Pretty much collapsed once I got back and didn't get out of bed until 3 days later, took another few days until it had gone.
I'm usually fairly good with illness, get over the worst of most thing in a couple of days a t the most, but that really took everything out of me.

Funny reading about the hallucinations
Although I've only had the flu once (well I think I have), I have had really high temperature freaky moments.
I remember burning up and feeling really dizzy. I walked up the stairs and entered the first room I could and threw myself on my parents bed. I remember dreaming of wierd floating numbers and strange men dressed in large socks.
Next thing I know is I'm standing by the stairs with my mum walking away from me looking scared. Apparently she had caught me in her room, going through the sock draw throwing them around. When asked what I was doing I replied, "I need socks", knowing that something wasn't right she said, "you have socks on." I said "Not for me, for them" pointing in the corner of the room. My mum told me there was no one there, and I replied "Yes there is, theres eleven of them!"
Then I started walking toward her! She freaked out.

I think I had it once in bed for at least 4/5 days, at the worst point I was swetting so much my quilt, matress and pillows were wet all the way thru.. I kept hearing voices and either had very vivid nightmares or holucination (I was so messed up I dont know which)

I wouldn't mind getting ill one day, have a few days off from work - I've never had a sickie in my life!
haha years ago i had it , i puked and did poos at the same time.
The only way you can really confirm if you have the flu is if you have been diagnosed by a doctor. Considering the accounts of the posters already, who have had experiences similar to my own, you should understand that it is difficult for many of us to conclude that you have had a full bout of flu if you haven't been diagnosed by a doctor, especially when comparing to the vast accounts of here, of which few seem exaggerated. Feeling tired, having a headache and a fluctuating termperature etc doesn't necessarily mean you have flu, although it can be a good indication.
I have had flu once in 21 years and most people posting seem to have had it once - whether that is 'rare' is subjective, but I wouldn't say that it's a common occurrence.
Do you know my symptoms? No, you dont. Have I been complaining of symptoms? No. Go back to playboy.com you 'experienced' little ocuk 21 year old.
Honestly, who do people think they are. You have no idea what you are talking about.

You sound like the subject of the op tbh. Someone who hasn't actually had Flu...
Be happy about it because there is a thread full of people here who can, and have, attested to the acute unpleasantness involved.

I didn't even say that you don't have the flu.
Im getting irritated by people telling me what I have/havent/lecturing when they have no idea of the symptoms - utterly pointless and ridiculous. Pure 'know it all attitude' - I suggest you see someone for that.

You insult other 'pathetic' members for over exaggerating their symptoms, whilst I can vouch that they are accounts that I can relate to.
Has your flu been diagnosed by a doctor? If not, surely you can understand why it is hard to be convinced that you have had a bout of flu. That isn't to say that you haven't had a mild flu.
I had gastric flu over Christmas a few years ago. Absolutely awful. Lost a stone in weight in a couple of weeks (and I was skinny to start with!) and it took me a good couple of months to rebuild my energy levels.
Could barely keep my eyes open most of the time as I was hardly sleeping due to the symptoms and anything I ate was leaving me ridiculously fast. Found out afterwards that my parents had nearly taken me to A&E because I just wasn't improving and just seemed to be getting worse. I only really remember Christmas Day and New Year, the bit in between was a complete blur of illness and seeing things.

It wasnt intended as 'know it all' yet you went on to lecture me about the whys and wherefores of whether or not I could have flu, even though you know nothing about me.
Why the hell should I need to convince a 21 year old on a forum that I have had flu. Spare. Me.
Who the hell are you to even question my word, not knowing any symptoms/circumstances around it!?

PS I didnt mention forum members were over exaggerating anything. Although at times it does feel like the northerner Monty Python sketch 'oh, that were NOTHING!'
